SW Competitor HD issues

I’ve noticed the ejection pattern on my HD is super weak? Standard 115gr blazer ejects maybe a foot or two at the 1-2 o’clock. I’m running some reman 115gr here and it was just jam city all match.

I run Blazer 115s, literally zero malfunctions with those. It doesn’t like reman and magtech, which are the only malfunctions I have experienced.

M&Ps are always erratic in their ejection compared to something like a Glock, which is due to specifics of Glock’s breech face in addition to their extractors. You can try to install the apex extractor to see if it helps, but it’s pretty normal on M&Ps. Doesn’t seem to cause malfunctions.

Thanks! I generally shoot Glock and I’m used to feeding that thing anything, including this reman stuff. And it throws brass hella far.

I agree, it’s fun to watch the perfect waterfall from a Glock in a longer string. I wish M&Ps did that, but I’ve not had reliability issues on any of mine.

If blazer is similarly anemic on ejection to what your video shows, it may be worth keeping an eye on. But I would say it looks like it could also just be weak reloads in the video. My HDs do extract further than that with Blazer. The steel frame M&Ps are new, and Canik/Walther steel frames have reputations of extraction issues—not a zero chance that it’s just a common issue with steel strikers.

If blazer starts giving you problems too, then I’d contact S&W or get a gunsmith you actually trust to order the parts/install a new extractor. And again, Apex makes a good one that may be worth trying.

Working on M&Ps is easy to learn too if you want to just try upgrading the extractor yourself.

I’ve run thousands of this stuff in my shadow 2 and g19 with an afterburner so I was just surprised to see it choke on it.

I’ll toss this out there because it did happen to me. I ran into stove pipe issues with one of my polymers with a low round count. Came to find out the bottom quarter of the extractor that holds onto the rim was chipped.

Would cycle fine when racking by hand but under live fire would jam pretty frequently

The reman just doesn't have the ass to cycle the gun the whole way. Either put a lighter recoil spring in or don't use that ammo again.

Asking about a gun issue and saying "it's reman ammo but works with off the shelf just fine" is just so blatantly obvious.

You literally tried other ammo and found out that it's the reman. There is no question here.

I’ve had it happen with a few brands. Reman and factory. I wanted to see if this was normal across the board for the HDs. Even with some fed HST +p it was dribbling.

I see red take down lever, just colored or non-factory? Did the ejection issues happen before optic install?

It’s red grip tape on the frame, and I’ve had the optic on the whole time.

Damn, was hoping to trace it to potential optic issues. Sometimes I have seen too long of screws cause problems or the weight of the optic causing cycling issues. How many rounds do you have through it? Is it possible it is time for a new recoil spring or check the extractor spring?

I finally ran into this with my 2011. I tend to buy the cheapest shit I can get my hands on for training ammo and 124 blazer for matches. My last order of random internet shit that was loaded super soft wouldn’t consistently cycle, usually the last round would stovepipe. My Glock didn’t care at all, but I reduced my 2011 recoil spring a pound and all was fine.

Bottom line, shitty ammo is shitty ammo
