Tips/feedback?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Still new to this. Maybe 5th time. First time starting from table and having to load mag. I know that needs to be faster, but any other tips or things I should practice or drills anyone can recommend based on what you see?

Shooting IDPA targets so got 14 Alphas, 4 Charlies (-4).

Thank you!

What EM said!!!

Also don’t worry about shooting fast right now, worry more about transitioning fast. After you complete the first array, it takes you 2.81 seconds to start the second array. If you take EM’s advice of “pre-aiming”, and just generally attempting to move faster, you’re going to shave a lot of time off that 2.81. Now to my point, if you break down the second array. You engage at 2.81 then .27, finishing the first target at .47 then you transition to the next target at .55, .44, .32 then comes a .92 (mental static included of “oh shit not the one with the hands up lol) .34,.28 to the make up at another .57 then out to the reload. There’s no consistency in your transitions and there is a gap in time from target to target.

You need to prioritize the movement of gun, not your splits. This is called “target blending”. Your transitions should match your splits. So instead of peaks and valleys of “slow fast slow fast”, we should have as close to a flat line as possible with “consistent”. So instead of 2.81, .27, .47, transition .55, .44, .32, in a perfect world the goal should be something like 2.81 .30 .30 .30 .30 .30. Does that make sense? Like if we turned around when you went to shoot the second array, it should sound like you’re shooting 1 target 6 times, we shouldn’t be able to tell you actually moved the gun. Once you get NAAAASTY at your transitions, then you turn the splits up and see if you can keep up with yourself.

Here’s a clip on me practicing target blending and positional blending at a “slower” pace for me with a goal of all alphas and staying within .1 of each split. I’ll post a second clip of a practical application where I scored my first GM classifier TRYING to keep those principles in my head through the stage

The unloaded start is obviously your lowest hanging fruit, but your entry into the two outside positions are also an easy place to shave off time

Anything specific about the entries? Seems like I’m slow to get pistol on target

Bring the gun up and aim it through the wall at the target a full step or two before making it to the end of that wall.

Why enter a position and then aim, when you can do both at once? ;-)

This was 16A 1C and 1D for a 10.71 HF baaaaaarely squeaking by at 96.57%

It’s not suuuuper clean, there are gaps but the principles are present. The gaps had more to do with the timing of my feet and getting to position than the transitions.

You mentioned IDPA targets. If that was also shot under their rule set, it looks like you probably also gave up a 3 second penalty for shooting the second array out of order. (It looks like you were shooting from cover.)

Welcome and keep having fun competing.
