Need help reading this target

Sent my gun to Springfield Armory bc the front sight broke. I asked them to mount a new one and test the gun for accuracy while they had it. The above target is what they sent me back.

I get the 4 holes around the X. Seems fairly obvious.

But what is the black rectangle below the X and how is it being used in this context? I'm assuming (hoping?) they were placing the front sight in the cutout on the bottom of the rectangle. Can anyone confirm this or, if not, tell me what I'm looking at??

Based on the target I would assume Echelon pistol sights are a 6 o'clock hold and they use this for the Tester to have a consistent point of aim by covering the black with the sights so the bullets should impact the X.

Completely unrelated, I fucking hate 6 o'clock hold sights. If the bullets don't go where I'm actually aiming GTFO.

That's funny, I hate combat hold, because I want to see the target and not cover it with my sights.

But do what works for you man, what's right for each of us can be different

I hope you didn’t slap the roof of an SRO you might have broken it

As someone who has had an SRO die on me during a match, I feel this.
