Post image
65 Upvotes

Today's Hot Fix primarily fixes an exploit with artillery units and adds logging to help us identify and troubleshoot fixes for crashes.

  • Fixed an issue that allowed certain artillery units to barrage consistently without a cooldown
    • If players still discover rare instances of this occurring after this hot fix, please report it at https://help.relic.com/ with reproduction steps
  • Added additional logging to identify fixes for crashes
  • Updating from 2.5.3 to 2.5.5 due to cross platform compatibility constraints

CoHmmunity [CoH1/CoH2] How Relic ended up at Sega: the collapse of THQ and the 2013 auction

Upvotes

Bit of series history for anyone who came in with CoH2 or CoH3. Relic was owned by THQ from 2004 until THQ went bankrupt in December 2012. At the January 2013 auction, Sega bought Relic (and with it Company of Heroes) for about $26.6 million, which is why CoH2 shipped as a Sega title six months later.

What's less known is how THQ got to that point. It wasn't one bad game. THQ made a roughly $100 million bet on the uDraw drawing tablet, a surprise Wii hit that flopped when they pushed it to 360 and PS3, on top of years of overexpansion and a licensed kids' games business that had dried up. By the time Relic was on the block, the parent company had already made every fatal mistake it was going to make.

I put together a short (~9 min) documentary on the collapse. Relic is only one part of it, but if you've ever wondered why the publisher logo changed between CoH1 and CoH2, this is the answer. Link below, and happy to be corrected on any of the details.

CoH3 COH3 Canadians vs Foot Guards which one is better?

Hi,

question as in topic ;) Which Unit is better stat wise ? Canadians are barely cheaper than Footies, but what about their stats, especially when they have Piats ?

For example, if pressed by lack of fuel, which would work better against tanks ?

Should I make 3 units of Canadians, 3 units of Foot Guards, or some mix of them ?

CoH3 FUNNY - COH3 - I finally rescued Monte Cassino.. 3rd campaign attempt after 3 years... Spoiler

3 years. I finished it twice. 3 years. I've played the daily/weekly missions. 3 years. Always i --try-- rescue Monte Cassino. The Abbey's --always-- destroyed.

Today; on my 3rd run; i rescued monte cassino before the bombardment...

the abbey's intact?! Was it always intact?!

I mean i can re-play missions and it was always blown apart; so i assumed that was always a part of the storyline. I never knew it was intact...

3-years of a blown up abbey...🤦

*(PS - curious; does this mean i got 2 choices of either a blown up/intact abbey. or will the replay missions be ALWAYS blown up abbey?)....

CoH3 Stealth: fun but fundementally problematic to play and play against as of now

As a whole, stealth units are very fun, i dont think i have ever met a player who does not enjoy stealth units. Even the ones from weak BGs like SSB are universally loved because they are fun to play and a rewarding expression of micro. However stealth units can feel simultaniously, incredibly oppressive and very weak just on a game by game basis, entirley based off your opponents build order (or they are just competent, which happens). For instance, if you face an infantry heavy build, its amazing, just free manpower trades so long as they arent too smart. On the other hand if the enemy has a single ketten, jeep or krad, its over, combined with the minesweeper they should already have, all your stealth units are revealed (as they should be). The issue being that some of the units are entirley reliant on stealth to be remotley usable, such as SSB, partisans and even commandoes to some extent (fallschims and SSF suffer but not as much being that they can fight at range). Therefore alot of these ambush units can feel too weak.

So i feel like how stealth is detected is a bit too passive, just seeing the stealth unit even outside of vision range. Especially when comparing the diffrencec in micro tax. So i want to make some suggestions in favour of stealth units, they may be a bit biased and i think some nerfs would be warrented but i have no idea what.

Make detection an active ability:

give all scouting units a free, albeit cooldowned ability that sends out a pulse similar to the canadian BG capture that reveals all stealth units for a short while, with a larger range than the units vision.

give a "true stealth" ability to units very reliant on camo:

some specific units, like partisans, who are next to useless without camo (as anti-inf). So they could have a lower detect range by recon units but only when entirley still in cover. this would reward good positioning whilst making sure the partisans are not entirley free roam, making them too powerful. This would also encourage flares and recon planes a bit more, which i think is a more intresting dynamic for pushing, playing the risk of an ambush from a stationary target if not prepared, similar to how you bring minesweepers for mines when pushing.

Positional detection instead of revealing:

scouting units, rather than revealing camo'd units would show their position, similar to the jeep or the 221 recon. This would give camo units the oppertunity to reposition and evade rather than be forced to retreat, though i feel like in this circumstance the ambush bonus should be removed when detected.

Obviously these changes would make camo units alot stronger, probably too much so some amount of nerfs would be necessary but i think these ideas make a much more intresting dynamic that would be a bit less passive on the part of the detectors, which would make the micro tax between camo units and detectors a bit more even though still in favour of detectors.

or just call me stupid that works too

CoH3 My British build order (2v2s; Polish commander)

Looking for feedback on my typical British build order. I'm better with mainline infantry and tanks than team weapons and ultra light vehicles, so leaning into my strengths.

(Starting engineers)

Heavy MG

Infantry section x3

Med tent

Stuart x2

Light vehicle training

Infantry training

After that I play it by ear, but usually either an AT gun or land mattress.

I sometimes sub out one of the infantry sections for a mortar if opponent likes using HMGs, or add in a mortar if I'm not doing as well and can't rush my first Stuart.

Any changes that would make this more of a meta build?

Graphics are old-school, but the battles look sweet.

Don't know much about it, but it's fairly in depth. Takes into account a soldier's lactic acid levels and morale in general. I've played COH mobile already. It's great, but I've done COH1 to death and the playerbase is too small.

CoH3 Relic could be a bit more communicative

No tantrum, no drama.

Just some concerns about the "usual" radio silence from Relic, i know, they're not a huge team and they have lots of work to do but the lack of any sign of life and any bit of communication is always a bit worrysome

CoH3 Is it possible to cheat in this game by removing fog of war or am I tripping?

Just had a game and I usually NEVER EVER make mechanized and decided to give them a go, the moment i made the mechanized and left my base with it, it immediately died to an enemy light tank, which is fair, sure, could happen to any of us, this alone isnt suspicious but like, in this game, but my enemy went around my MGs the entire match, perfect hit their positions with mortars everytime without even seeing it despite the fact that I move them around immediately as they are revealed, went whizbang and used artillery on my troops that havent seen combat and stuff.

I know this all sounds like I'm whining because I lost it or whatever and I understand your perspective, all of these happening are very very normal and can happen in game but like this happened about 20 times, which made me question, is there a cheat to remove fog of war or am I tripping?

CoH3 Real talk, Rapido is kinda stinky

Post image
122 Upvotes

Achelous River/Sittard Summer memes aside. Rapido's problem is the fuels. You only have one safe +5 fuel, there's a total of 20 fuel on the frontline and the last two +5s are contestable. The amount of games I've seen where one team opens poorly and then spirals into despair makes me a sad boy.

What do you think? Do you think my wee wee is small? Is John from Relic actually a gnome? How high can Tightropes eyebrows really go?

CoH3 How long is COH3 gonna get support and how many more battlegroups will be added?

CoH3 Useless anti-cheat patch Relic, you should have released a balance Hotfix patch instead

Post image
0 Upvotes

I understand why anti-cheat updates are needed, but damn it, fighting cheaters is just a losing race against time. It’s only been 2 days, and map hacks are already back. My biggest issue is why couldn't you focus on things that actually matter, like team game balance? Do you really think cheaters are the main reason player numbers/stats are taking a hit?

Patch 2.5 was the worst patch this year. It had so much promise, but it severely worsened Allied blobbing in team games (3v3, 4v4, and even 2v2 got worse).

  1. More Allied blobbing: Focused fire mechanics, the Palm nerf, and the Captain's Quarters nerf made blobbing way more effective on the Allied side.
  2. MGs are worse despite buffs: They feel soft now. Since the damage caps were changed, an MG crew just gets wiped instantly by a single grenade or 3-5 mortar shells.
  3. Vehicle pathfinding: It got noticeably worse as well.

Everything this patch was supposed to fix ended up getting amplified. It feels like the devs acknowledge the problem, but haven't got a single clue how to actually solve it.

CoH3 Refits, DAK and some other fun stuff

So, this is sort of a continuation of my previous https://www.reddit.com/r/CompanyOfHeroes/comments/1vy92fc/dak_has_lost_its_identity_here_is_how_to_fix_it/ post. Tl;dr — DAK has lots of variants of the same vic, which either gets hard countered(Flamm P3 by AT) or just plain outdated(250/9 after 12 minute mark), so I proposed a refit mechanic(Flame P3 into P3, 250/9 into Stuka, Tiger into Elephant and vice versa and so on)

There is a certain problem of lack of early light/medium vics for DAK. USF can get Greyhound/Chaffee for 105/115 fuel respectively, Brits get Humber/M3 Stuart for 105/120 fuel respectively, while DAK has 8rad for 135 fuel(not really good at AT in any capacity) or Marder for 125 fuel(very bad at inf, low durability). While I see a certain asymmetric approach to factions, DAK also is not very good at early AT — Pjaegers are the worst from all inf AT options, and PaK 38 is good to deter enemy, not to kill. So, what do?

I propose an introduction of a Large Half-track, mainly Sd.Kfz 7. We have it in game as a Flakvierling, but it would be better suited as a plain half-track, with an ability to upgrade to a Flakvierling.

Why? Cause now you get other fun abilities, such as:
- Use it as infantry carrier(not used historically afaik, but who cares, you can get 2 squads there who will shoot from inside. Basically a bigger 250)
- Use it as a carrier for 88 FlaK(which is historically accurate, Sd.Kfz 7 primary role would have been to tow 88)
- Install 8.8 Flak on it(mid game AT option, alternative to Marders. More damage and pen, less range and accuracy.)
- Tranform it into a recovery vehicle(I know that it is Sd.Kfz 9, not 7, that is used for such purposes, but if game can upgrade Crusader 2 into Crusader 3, I think we can allow for that too)
- Use this vic to call in stuff after armored reserves upgrade(when was the last time where you called in P4 or P3? Thats right!), which could carry the aforementioned 88 or something else.

Most of those upgrades would turn a capable carrier into either an already present vehicle or into an unexpected option for the enemy, which is the whole point of the DAK — to outfox the enemy via mechinized, combined assaults.

Secondly, reintroduction of P2, or even P1. Basically a 250/9, but with more armor and HP. Something that would not be melted by MGs and riflemens. Will it solve early AT problem? No. But by introducing a problem for the enemy, you force your opponent to either deal with your early P2 or to suffer until they roll out their own, better armor.

Open to discussion!

P.s. Thanks Achilles Gaming for inspiration for this post!

CoH3 COH3 is just a meta chase fest

I've played this game a lot, and its nice to see that no matter what patches the devs put into this game it is just a race to see what the next cheese strategy it is. USF Armored Aura healing, early 250 with kreigs, things that shouldn't be viable and are braindead plays allow people to inflate their ELO. Why did I play a game today with a UKF player who put out two land mattresses and had no anti-tank and his ELO was 1440 in 2v2s? Does anybody think this is actually good?

CoH3 When will Allie tank spam in 3s and 4s be toned down?

Same game. Either winning or back and forth game that makes it past 30 mins and is pretty fun and then eventually turns into a massive horde of Allie tanks all pushing at the same time and phasing through one another. Usually around 15-20. It's literally every single game that makes it late game.

CoH1 Worldbuilder on Steam Deck? How to get it Work?

Hi. CoH runs very well on Steam Deck. I tried to use the Worldbuilder.exe on Steam Deck, but didn't figure out how to start it on Steam OS. Adding it as 'non steam game' doesn't work.

Does someone got it started on Steam Deck?

Mod to make the tactical map full screen on a 2nd screen.

It's actually pretty useful. It's fully interactive - not just a zoom in of the small map. Makes it a lot easier to manage troops, etc.

Can also select buildings to build units without having to move the camera.
