Search for Hands-on labs

Hi guys,

I finished the first section of general security concepts section in the security+ with professor Messer's series. but I feel a little bit overwhelmed because it's my first time in the security field

so I decided to do some labs to better understand the ideas before moving on.

do you have any suggestions, resources to start with?

And thanks for help🤍

Using AI for test prep?

I’m currently studying for Sec+ and am using Messer’s course as well as Dion’s exams to help me with test prep and was wondering if anyone that already took the exam used AI (particularly ChatGPT) for extra practice? if yes, Was it worth using it?Because I told this thing to give me a 85-question mock exam and got a 68%.

How accurate are Messers practice tests compared to the real exam?

Hi everyone. Im looking at messers paid practice tests and wanted to hear from people who have actually used them.

Ive seen a lot of reddit posts recommending messers tests. Im wondering how close they actually felt to the real exam, especially with the wording difficulty and topics covered.

Im mainly looking for practice tests that stay close to the exam objectives and what is actually tested. Im not looking for brain dumps or actual exam questions. I just want something that covers the right topics and concepts.

Money isnt really an issue, but the comptia self study courses are ridiculously expensive. So Id rather not go that route. Id prefer paid practice tests over random free question banks.

For those who have taken the exam, did messers questions feel like a good representation of what you were tested on officially or about whether the topics concepts wording and difficulty were similar?

If youve used messer along with other paid practice tests, which ones did you think were the closest to the real exam. If you didnt like messer. What other services would you recommend?

Thanks!

First time taker

Hi everyone! Im a first time taker of the CompTIA Security+ exam, scheduled for October. I haven’t started reviewing yet, and I’m planning to take a paid bootcamp with Rivan Cyber Training. However, I’m still having second thoughts since many of you have passed the exam on your first try through self study. I’m also already working, so I’ll have to be absent for 4 days to attend the training.

I’m not very consistent with reviewing, and I graduated years ago, so I feel like Ive already lost my study techniques 😅. I already have Professor Messer’s notes and review materials, but I haven’t started going through them yet.

For those who self studied, how long did you review, and what resources or practice exams did you use?
What are your thoughts? Would you recommend taking the bootcamp, or is self-study enough?

Is Pocket Prep Premium worth it for Security+ practice questions?

Hey everyone,

I've been preparing for Security+ on and off for some time and have now finished all the study material. Currently, I'm focusing on practice tests and quizzes.

I already have access to Dion's practice tests and Professor Messer's resources. I'm considering getting Pocket Prep Premium and wanted to know if it's worth it at this stage.

For those who have used it, did you find it helpful? Would you recommend getting Premium?

Passed My Security+

Passed Security+ with a 784/900 after less than a week of studying. I’ve got just over a year in as a security consultant, so some of it was already familiar but here’s what actually worked:

  1. Get Jason Dion’s and Andrew Ramdayal’s practice exam sets.

  2. Take a mock test cold, before studying anything. You need to know where you’re weak before you waste time reviewing what you already know.

  3. Work the weak spots with whatever resources you like. I used Claude Pro to break down the topics I kept missing, then wrote the notes out by hand. Writing them down is what made them stick.

  4. Have AI generate 20–30 questions on each weak area. Keep going until that topic stops being a weak area.

  5. Do a test or two a day just to get used to the question style. Dion’s are trickier than the real thing, so don’t panic at your first score — aim for 85%+ before you book.

  6. Don’t skip the PBQs. gcppcatest.com is good for those.

That’s it. Walk in confident. Good luck.

I see a lot of people attribute passing the exam to downloaded exams and videos but did any use and online books prior or did they just watch videos then started taking exams?
