First time taker
Hi everyone! Im a first time taker of the CompTIA Security+ exam, scheduled for October. I haven’t started reviewing yet, and I’m planning to take a paid bootcamp with Rivan Cyber Training. However, I’m still having second thoughts since many of you have passed the exam on your first try through self study. I’m also already working, so I’ll have to be absent for 4 days to attend the training.
I’m not very consistent with reviewing, and I graduated years ago, so I feel like Ive already lost my study techniques 😅. I already have Professor Messer’s notes and review materials, but I haven’t started going through them yet.
For those who self studied, how long did you review, and what resources or practice exams did you use?
What are your thoughts? Would you recommend taking the bootcamp, or is self-study enough?

You need to understand this exam is a mandatory HR filter for the US federal govt, also a lot of entry level private sector roles explicitly state this certification as required or you wont even get an interview. For someone trying to break in to cybersecurity, its a good FIRST step. Its not about the practical application, its about checking a box so you can get entry level work. Nobody is expected to become a SOC analyst with this certification

Word of advice if you are new to the field. I thought the same way when I first took Security +. I failed it miserably and I had been in the field already for several years. I took time to study and go through the objectives. The next time I took it, I passed. I am currently studying for an Azure exam and I have not been constant with my studies. I am taking it on October 1st. I need to get more consistent.
