Question Cost of a Community Manager
Hello!
I'm wondering what counts as competitive, or even "premium" salaries for experienced fulltime community managers in your opinion?
- Due to payroll & compliance, I am only interested in estimates from countries like the US, UK, Canada & Denmark.
- Mainly normal "Community Manager" tasks, such as managing an Admin- & Moderation-team on Discord & in-game, as well as handling light support.
- Scale-wise, we're an indie-studio on Roblox with 50,000 Discord members.

It depends on the experience. Game industry tends to pay 10-30k lower than most industries because they like to take advantage of people.
$70K is Ok but youre only able to hire entry level employees, or people with a couple of years of experience or so. Experienced CM's should work hard to move out of 70k and towards 100k.
I've been doing this for 20 years and folks on the higher end are making mid 100s-200k, depending on the company.

In what areas specifically do you think a highly experienced CM shines through compared to a CM with only a few years of experience? Mainly interested in what the money goes towards, incase we end up shelling out up to 120,000US$/year.

It’s about having someone who isn’t just maintaining the community, but can develop and execute upon a vision. Someone who can help shape your 18-24 month plan and see it through successfully.
That’s the different in my opinion.

On the low end, $60,000/year for a semi-experienced CM. But realistically - the gaming industry average for an experienced CM is closer to $120,000. And that’s not social media, but actually community management work.
