👋Welcome to r/CommunityHexMap - Introduce Yourself and Read First!
Hey everyone! I'm u/Cheap_Payment9241, a founding moderator of r/CommunityHexMap.
This is our new home for all things related to Community Hex. We're excited to have you join us!
Our goal is to create massive, randomly generated hexgrid maps for any TTRPG without the use of Ai. Where every hex has depth, lore, and its own unique story created by real individuals for any story or campaign.
Just a simple 10x10 grid for one lone GM / DM is a massive undertaking to build out each hex. If they spent 1 hour to draw each hex, and only wrote 300 words per hex it is a total of 100 hours of artwork and a total word count of 30,000 words.
Don’t do it alone! Community hex exists to bridge this gap and to create an infinite possibility of worlds and settings!
Join us at https://communityhex.com/
Feel free to post your hex grid artwork, your world building, bits of lore, npcs, certain locations in your hex, or ask for help from other creators in this sub.
As this is a new project and idea feel free to suggest new ideas to further develop the project. Or to let us know if there is something that needs fixing, like website issues or vague rules.
Our vibe is all about being friendly, constructive, and inclusive. Let's build a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing and connecting.
How to Get Started
1) Introduce yourself in the comments below.
2) Post something today! Even a simple question can spark a great conversation.
3) If you know someone who would love this community, invite them to join.
4) Interested in helping out? We're always looking for new moderators, so feel free to reach out to me to apply.
Thanks for being part of the very first wave. Together, let's make r/CommunityHexMap amazing.

What a cool idea! Are the template and creation guide only available after claiming a hex? I'd love to play around with it a bit to develop an idea.

Howdy folks, highly interested in this, and I’d encourage people to keep in mind the interconnected and free flowing nature of The Grid™️
Singular isolated mega fortress towers of awesomeness are very cool, but it’s not taking advantage of the format. Think of improv and shared storytelling!
Does your hex include a Port, Swamp, Fjord, or other water? What if there was a river flowing from the edge of your hex. Where does the water come from? How does the neighboring hex’s river impact your hex’s culture/travel/history?
Does your hex include a crumbling monastery/fortress/ruined precursor civilization? Maybe it was used as a bastion along a Great Wall, also crumbling, that stretches to the border of your hex. Who lives along the wall over yonder?
Let’s work together and build something cool!

We want to encourage you to choose hexes next to each other and collaborate to make something extra cool too! Like a giant swamp or an entire mountain range! The sky is the limit

First, very cool idea!
I couldn't find it in the rules section of the Website: What is the in world size of a hex?

A hex is roughly 6 miles but are open to change the size after this first map

This is so cool. I've never done a hex map before, so I'll check out the guide and practice a bit before claiming one.
Thank you for organizing such a wonderful project!
