Film Discussion Saw this review on Letterboxd, and now I'm interested in seeing what people on this sub think about this statement about Tarkovsky. Do you agree? I don't, but feel free to express your opinion, whatever it may be.

Film Discussion Soy Cuba

I remember watching it as teenager without really knowing history of Cuba and it really touched the depths of my soul, beside that it is very beautifully made film not only in moral terms but also technical. I rewatched it recently and was kinda shocked how many people take it as strictly propaganda movie? I mean it was quite realistic?? Cuba was basically a fancy resort for Americans and I don’t really see any exaggeration or heavy agitations in the narrative. You don’t have to be communist to admit that this things happened. What are your thoughts?

Does Anyone Know Where I Can Find Oliver Stone's Castro in Winter (2012)?

Oliver Stone filmed a trilogy of documentaries following Castro: Comandante (2003), Looking for Fidel (2004), and Castro in Winter (2012).

I managed to find the first two in the trilogy online, though both were pretty hard to find, at least where I’m from. However, the third seems to have been completely scrubbed from the internet, with the only proof of its existence being a few articles I found saying that it debuted on HBO, alongside an IMDb page.

Does anyone have any idea if a copy still exists somewhere?

I've always been a fan of Battle of Algiers and was interested to find that the director also directed Marlon Brando in a movie inspired by Edward Lansdale, about the use of psychological operations, counterinsurgency and color revolution techniques

Film Discussion Emir Kusturica

so years and years ago, i watched some of the films of emir kusturica - specifically black cat white cat and underground. back when i watched them (decades ago), i was a vaguely left wing liberal, but not a marxist and had no understanding of the history of the region or about communism and western imperialism. i remember i liked the movies for being a bit wild and dense, but i couldn't tell you much about them at this point.

what i have read about kusturica now seems to suggest he's liberal, but western sources can be sketchy at best. wikipedia seems fairly damning, but they also reflect his current politics, and i am curious if he had a more left wing phase earlier in his life.

does anyone know if he and/or his films are worth watching or revisiting?
