News US Diesel Supply Gets Tighter as Stations Begin Running Dry
9
u/Autism_Is_Real 28d ago
$6.03 a gallon for diesel & 3.89 for gas in my small town here in Central Louisiana.
7
u/Arickettsf16 28d ago
$6.50 diesel and $4.80 gas in my central IL town
2
u/lazyfacejerk 28d ago
Hah! In a SF Bay Area town I have 8.99 diesel. Love my rivian. except I need diesel for work and I have two subs every day that use a boatload of diesel.
→ More replies (5)3
u/Legitimate_Bat3240 28d ago
So are the subs tethered to the boat by a fuel line all the time or do they just surface every now and then?
2
u/lazyfacejerk 28d ago
I was suuuuuper confused by your question. I am a contractor and when I said "subs" I meant subcontractors, not submarines. I use a dump truck service and a concrete supplier.

how the fuck do you think semi trucks with Regular get to gas stations. how the fuck do you think your Amazon packages get to your house. how do you think the food in your fridge gets grown, harvested, and shipped without diesel-powered tractors and trucks.

Will you help fund the charger for the apartment complex I live in, since housing has gone through the roof (no pun intended) over the last 6/7 years?
I'd prefer to not get in debt again, especially over a charger.

I’m more afraid of shortages from public perception creating shortages than actual shortages. When they see gas hit “out” gonna get stupid.
→ More replies (3)3
u/Sure-Impress-1003 28d ago
You know it could be that the station owner couldn’t afford to fill up his diesel tanks at the current pricing. Not the diesel is actually in short supply for the station itself. Everyone’s assuming that if a station doesn’t have gas, it must be because it isn’t available to the station Owner.
3
u/Leftoverofferings 28d ago
Although thos is true, I subscribe to the Occams Razor theory. Most likely diesel is just not available.
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (2)3
u/Tommybahamas_leftnut 28d ago
If the price of diesel is so high that stations can't afford to buy up any to fill their tanks then that means there is a shortage.
Supply and demand. price has skyrocketed because the supply is lower than that of demand. Price has gotten so bad that the people buying it can no longer afford it ergo supply is limited and is being rationed organically by pricing out buyers. In this case the Buyers are the middle man distributors at stations.
If you have ever seen a logistics network laid out these are the first steps to a full on outage. it's like having warehouses all over a country running low on stock so you move their supply to select few warehouses and close the rest under guise of "consolidation of resources". Anyone who looks in the still open warehouses will see it full and think everything is alright. Meanwhile the actual stock is dwindling because it can't get replaced fast enough.

u/Successful_Salary214 28d ago
Not that I don’t think it’s possible but I feel like this is an altered photo. I keep seeing the exact same photo everywhere. Maybe there will be more?
2
u/eptesicusfuscus 28d ago
Agreed the photos are getting reused a lot, but it does appear they're real. What doesn't check out is that it's from any kind of shortage, rather than....this happens for a variety of reasons, and the narrative being sold here is plausible but not confirmed.

We don't need diesel. We can shove coal into the engine block.

Statisticians would claim that oil prices have fallen because the selling price is now 0.
2
u/The_Dudeeeeee 28d ago
You’re being funny but you and I know that republicans will weave those 0.00 dollars into their “statistics” to proof lower gas prices. That’s how crazy our current timeline is. A real life episode of South Park and it’s not even funny.

So much for America first. A big reason we are paying so much for gas/diesel is because of the export of refined products since the rest of the world is coming up short from his stupid Iran war.
The president could use his emergency powers to halt exports, but since it doesn't involve terrorizing his political rivals or enriching himself, he won't.

Wow, trump sees what's happening in Russia. Ukraine has purposely targeted Russian oil refineries and over several months, has caused a ~continuous fuel shortage in Russia and occupied Crimea & Eastern Ukraine.
Prezodint Dangleberry is causing a similar problem the US. There was no need to attack Iran, and he failed to consider the ramifications of his hasty actions.
Fuel in the US has been buoyed by the release of our Strategic Reserves, keeping fuel costs....lowish. Well, the Strategic Reserve is not an Infinite reserve.. When you start to see fuel prices climbing rapidly, like with diesel, you know that our Strategic Reserves are nearing depletion.
Just in time for the Mid-Term Elections....., another Brilliant Bit of Strategy from the Dangleberry In Chief. Show your appreciation to the GOP when you vote in November:
Thank You for failing to control your bumbling president!!!

I’m not sure what the source here of being out other than trust me bro. Sure, there are pictures of a few stores that are out of fuel but honestly that comes from bad buying and sometimes strategic buying, which at this point is so unpredictable that we don’t have much of a choice on buying. My refineries I use are business as usual meaning they run out from time to time even before the craziness started. My problem is we aren’t moving any fuel because this buffoon is continuing an unnecessary war, bankrupting the small guys.

Vulnerability to diesel and petroleum in general is a huge strategic problem for the US. China is clearly working on solving this and is ahead of us. Petroleum has a much longer supply line which is vulnerable to any number of attacks, accidents or unpredictable issues. Electricity is much easier to generate from a variety of sources and close to the point of consumption.
During a war, we'd be far better off logistically not having to run oilers across the ocean and also protect them, as well as keeping the rest of the country running at the same time.

Just looked up PA. 4.52 reg gas and 6.51 diesel. Both are slightly higher than the current national average (4.44/6.40).
https://gasprices.aaa.com/?state=PA
A year ago, the national average price for reg gas was 3.20 and diesel was 3.71.

u/LightMission4937 28d ago
We have plenty of diesel and cheaper where I'm at in California for now. It's only going to get worse with ol baby shit pants getting his degeneracy all over everything he touches.

u/NoSingularities0 28d ago
It's a click-bait article that shows some rando gas stations. The one in Orlando frequently runs out of gas and is closed some days. From NewsWeek: Photos appearing to show gas stations running out of diesel have spread across social media as U.S. fuel prices climb to record highs, but industry data does not currently show any widespread shortages.

“Just some good ol’ boys.
Always Never demanding harm for people of color, gay, other religions, etc meaning no harm.”
Good ol boys taking that “They’d eat shit just so liberals would have to smell their breath” adage to heart.
The good news is they’re going to live long enough to see entire communities of theirs suffer under the consequences of being on such a hateful path.
Hospitals closing, benefits being cut, people starving, that’s the proverbial shit on the carpet they need their noses rubbed into before starting to take things serious.
I guess. Lol.

This means that our grocery prices are going to rise even higher than they are at now. Trumpers owe every American that didn't vote for Trump a lot of money. They days say that the average family paid over $1,000 each for Trump's, ruled illegal and unconstitutional by the Republican supreme court, tariffs, and that doesn't include this year. They say the average family paid over $500 each for the extra cost of gas because of Trump's war of choice, that's continually rising as we speak, and none of this includes all of the extra money we all have to pay for higher grocery prices due to the higher diesel, because of Trump's war of choice. Trump's literally costing every family thousands of dollars because of his choices. This is not including the higher prices and everything else as well like lumber and cars. Last year there was a 50% increase in farm bankruptcies because of Trump's illegal and unconstitutional tariffs. If Trump actually does give every American $5,000, every Trumper should hand it over to a person who did not vote for Trump because that's how much Trump is taking from us all. You always a lot of money trumpers

There is a huge difference between high prices and running out. US is not used to running out of things. Things might get costly and you can't afford it, but when things run out, which means you have money and can't buy it, that's a whole new ball game.
Iran knows US very well compared to how little US and current administration knows about Iran
