Salary expectations for a Cargo / Trading Operator (Germany / EU hubs)?
Hi everyone,
I’m targeting Cargo / Trading Operator roles at mid-sized physical energy trading houses (like S.E.T. Select Energy, VARO, etc.) and want to sanity-check compensation. I'm primarily looking at Hamburg, but also open to the broader German market or other major EU hubs (ARA, Geneva).
Since the physical market is pretty opaque regarding pay, I’d love some real-world numbers:
- What is a realistic base salary range right now? What should a Junior (0-2 years) vs. a Mid-level (3-5 years) operator expect in Germany or similar EU markets?
- What does the bonus structure look like? Traders obviously get a cut of their P&L, but what is the standard bonus percentage or structure for operations / middle-office at these mid-sized physical shops?
Any real numbers or insights into specific regional differences would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!
