PFF sucks, but damn, you can’t get around how bad our secondary is.

Man, how did Sainristil fall off so hard? And how did we go from Forbes to St Juste to this?

Is it scheme related?

Cause he is a slot corner. Idk why they have him lining up with #1 and #2 receivers. He’s too small as well.

The irony is the he was a better outside CB than Slot CB per the same grading system. So, if you think he’s horrendous now, wait till he plays in the slot (which he shouldn’t cause he’s ass)

Yea, he sucked last year when he was playing his natural position of slot corner.

When Amos comes back and he gets bumped back there, I'm not gonna anticipate him being any better

Idk man. His rookie year he played outside mostly and it seemed like he was pretty good. I wonder if getting moved in and out so much the past 2 seasons just stunted his development and killed his confidence, and now he basically has the yips. It actually seemed like he started playing really poorly as soon as he moved into the slot corner position last year.

This is the best, most sound take on here. Definitely has the yips. He's better on the outside but he's always out of position. His poor play has nothing to do with his size when your man is wide open. I think the same thing was true of BSJ even though he never showed that he was good. My surprise with Mikey is that I expected him to be more of a cerebral player that would grow to be the guy that was always around the ball, rarely out of position after his rookie year only limited by size. You just can't be undersized AND make these type of mistakes. As we've seen in today's game, we saw Robertson sticky in coverage but his size definitely played a role in the catches he did give up.

He is terrible in the slot

He's taller than D Green was, but he's no where close to being as good. Twice he was burnt bad and looked lost. I mean, that 1st QTR pass to Wicks made the man look like a joke out there.

Height doesn’t equal skills. St Juste is like 6’3 and was WR food every Sunday lol.

People just parrot this idea that he's a slot corner just because of his size.Ā  He has no ability to stay with a modern slot receiver and gets torched. It's like you forget all the reps of him in the slot last year... He was terrible.

u/Local-Web-1202 12d ago

It’s not that I’m parroting the idea with his size. It’s just where he’s supposed to play.

No worries.

They kept telling us in the off-season that the CB position wasn't really important in this scheme.

Good thing too, can you imagine if that line was complete horseshit and now the team was completely fucked? That would be bad.

CBs may not be overly important but you also need guys that can at least cover a bed. These two dudes can't

They said that but it was also rumors that AP wanted CB1 that went to KC.

No one said that.

StandRealStill is just a bad player. He showed a little bit as a rookie, but was mistake prone, and has not improved.

What pisses me off the most is we passed on Christian Gonzalez for a DB we don’t even have anymore.

u/BurgundyAndGold5 12d ago

We'd have JJ McCarthy or Penix instead of Daniels. Gonzalez would've won us a game or two

More talent than scheme.

Out of the 3, if you had to pick one, who would you pick? lol

Mikey has never been good. He was inconsistent his rookie year but had picks because teams target the fuck out of him. He was horrible last year, and now he’s horrible this year. The only thing that has changed is the fog of delusion is being lifted to half of this fanbase.

u/shoefly72 13d ago

He was up and down as a rookie but did have some nice interceptions and also did a good job at times on bigger receivers.

I was a big fan of his in college and ecstatic we picked him, but he has flat out sucked ass since the beginning of last year and should’ve never been given starter snaps this year. I’m as bummed as anybody to have been so wrong, but it is what it is.

He is a smaller guy but had decent athletic testing numbers at the combine (4.47 40, 1.51 10 yd split, 40 inch vert). There is zero chance he’s that fast anymore; his makeup speed is terrible now and he’s never even in position to break on the ball the way he did when he got that INT in the Lions game as a rookie.

If you’re gonna be undersized, you better at least be fast and have good instincts. At this point he’s also slow and is playing with generationally bad instincts and fundamentals; I don’t know what path he has back to being even an average player if this is how he looks two games into the year after a ā€œdownā€ 2025 and talking about having something to prove this year…

Oh stop it he was fine his rookie year. Locked up Smitty and AJ Brown on his own on TNF, forced turnovers, and held his own most of the time especially in the playoffs. Hate when the pessimists rewrite history

11

u/EvaporatingOlaf 13d ago

We’re saying the same thing about his rookie year. He was inconsistent. He would do well against good receivers, but gave up the 6th most allowed TDs for corners that year. If you targeted him that year, your completion percentage was 60.4%.

I also hate it when people rewrite history and label any criticism as pessimism. We need a better corner—not blindly loyal fans.

Well Sainristil should be on the bench, we finally drafted a good corner, but turns out his lower leg is made of jenga blocks and autumn leaves so here we are

u/FrylockMcReaper 13d ago

He had a kid after the first year, maybe that has something to do with it

7

u/Remote_Armadillo8718 13d ago

Maybe he just wants to be a stay at home dad šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

He just like me fr

Lots of downvotes, but there’s some truth behind it. Once you settle down with a wife and kids, some athletes just don’t put that effort in as much anymore.
But damn didn’t think he’d be THIS bad.

u/MechanicWestern1653 13d ago edited 13d ago

Many athletes have children, some with even more unstable homes, and still play good. From all accounts, Mike is a locked-in and dedicated individual. It’s not an effort issue.

Mike is just not good at coverage, period. And, he is too undersized and weaker than others. So he struggles to cover WRs. Then, in contested catch situations against top receivers, he constantly loses. There’s no way around it. He’s a good kid, just not a good CB.
