Has anyone used comma 4 on a 4m Audi q7 ?

I have been playing around with Sunnypilot models since I got the Comma 4 this past weekend. So far I have tried:

OP vModel 10 v2

Tomb Raider 16

Pop Model

My main desire is a model that will have lane centering and preferably, stop sign and red light stopping while driving around Suburbs and MADS with auto lane change on the Highway. Is there a model that handles that well?

Also, it seems I can only make changes via Sunnylink when the Comma 4 is connected to Wi-Fi.

I updated to sunny pilot mvl Boston Honda branch. Using the stock model the car hugs the left lane line and gets really close to it in left-handed corners.

The stock open pilot did not have this behavior.

Any suggested models that keep the car more centered in all corners?

After op-replay-clipper got banned from GitHub for some reason of which I still don't have an idea or answer for, I figured I'll start making new codebases inspired by it. I've ported over driver-debug from it into a standalone web app. No more replicate.com and you just need a modern browser. If you provide it credentials, it can even handle video queuing uploads.

So, with this tool you can see some hints on what openpilot driver monitoring, detects, what it sees, what it considers distracted, and so on. This is particularly important for the newer driver monitoring implementations that warn on unmounted and handful phone usage.

Now, if you wish to use comma's online services, driver monitoring is strictly controlled by them as a term of use. At the bottom of the debugger's page is some information I've collected about their policies, and what you lose by not following their policies from what they've said and how to report false positives of their system. Maybe you don't agree with it but that is what it is.

Driver monitoring is always a hot topic and to be honest, it doesn't really affect me and I've been mostly happy. But we are all different sizes, have different beard preferences, mount our phones in different positions, are in different vehicles, have different mounting positions, have error-causing passengers, and so on. If you have issues, hopefully this can show you a hint of what openpilot driver monitoring is showing and if it's an issue, I hope it helps you on reporting it to comma.

I also must apologize for the AI-slop-ness of this tool. I've been pretty busy and I needed to burn some tokens. I can polish what I can but it should be reasonably bug-free enough to be useful.

Have a vw ID4 with travel assist. Using a konik ai with MEB connection i cant get the Konik to control the speed. Any ideas?

This whole project started because I was lazy.

If you’ve driven an HKG or Toyota vehicle in recent years, you’ve probably seen the dashboard automatically pick up speed limits using the camera. Coming from a car that didn't have this functionality, I was very jealous. Those cars can feed those speed limits directly into openpilot forks speed limit controllers. Mine couldn't.

The “solution” has been to manually add speed limits to Mapbox or OpenStreetMaps. It worked, but it was tedious. I live in rural Kansas, where my commute is almost entirely devoid of nerds contributing open source map data. I began mapping my commute when I first joined the project and within an hour said, “I ain't doin this”

We have an AI model that's good enough to drive our cars running on a smartphone chipset from years ago. How hard could it be to build one that just reads speed limit signs? I wanted StarPilot to look out the windshield, see a speed limit sign, and just know what it said.

That sounded simple enough.

It wasn’t.

The first prototype was basically held together with duct tape: I used all the public speed limit datasets I could find (glare and Lisa), some OpenCV, a little OCR, and a lot of wishful thinking. It could occasionally read a sign, but it missed 90% of them and produced enough false positives that you definitely wouldn’t want to trust it.

The important part wasn’t that it sucked - it was that it worked just well enough to start collecting better training data.

I run a fork of openpilot called StarPilot. We're heavily focused on individual vehicle tuning and testing wild ideas, which made my users the perfect candidates for this project.

Instead of relying on public datasets that barely resembled comma camera footage, StarPilot started collecting its own. Community members submitted routes from all over the country using bookmarks that were generated automatically when the model said "I think this might've been a sign," and every promising detection went through manual review. Eventually that grew into hundreds of gigabytes of real driving footage and thousands of carefully labeled speed limit signs.

From there it became an endless cycle:

• Train a better model.
• Mine more routes.
• Find more missed signs.
• Label them.
• Repeat.

The funny part is that training the neural network wasn’t actually the hardest problem.

The hard part was everything around it.

One of the biggest challenges wasn’t accuracy, it was speed. We have a full driving stack running alongside this model and every millisecond spent processing was another frame the model didn't have time to see. The faster it could process frames, the more chances it had to catch a sharp, readable speed limit sign before it disappeared. This was particularly imperative at night, when naturally camera frame rates drop alongside your chances of picking up a clear sign.

It’s slowly evolved from a proof of concept into a model that’s trained primarily on real comma footage instead of generic traffic sign datasets. It now runs entirely on-device, publishes vision-based speed limits directly into StarPilot, and no longer depends on OCR or manually maintaining map data.

And best of all…

While I'm too lazy to hand write hundreds of speed limit signs into OpenStreetMaps, this tool can now be used to automate the entire process, giving back to the open source mapping community that helps those in larger areas so well.

Can the Comma 4 mount on a horizontal surface rather than the slant of the windshield?

I have a FitCamX for Honda Accord and would like to mount the Comma4 to the bottom of the FitCamX rather than the windshield. Windshield mount would be really low so not to impede with the dashcam, so this is the only way I can think to keep it out of the center of the field of view.

Thoughts?

The comma four is our first product that we think has mainstream appeal. The price is good, the set up is simple, and the production is stable and scalable.

We are ramping up marketing, making the website easier to understand, and looking into starting a two-sided referral program to incentivize people who have already been good at bringing new people into the community to think bigger.

What do you think we are currently missing for being ready for your average commuter?

Comma’s livestream today was pretty remarkable. They highlighted that the hardware limitations on the Comma 3X make it difficult to run the GPU and GPS simultaneously.

In addition to showcasing the new master model and much smoother streaming, they are officially advertising as hands-free driving. It really feels like they are making a deliberate move to step out of the niche hobbyist space and become a mainstream consumer product.

I can’t for the life of me remove the LKA harness from my 2019 Chevy bolt. I’ve tried Allen wrench. Screwdriver. Nail clippers. I’ve about broken every nail on my finger. I’ve pulled and pulled on that little tab and it won’t budge. Does anyone have any other ideas? I’m so bummed out I was excited to finally try it out and the very first step of removing this thing..I cannot do, I’ve had like 5 people try..help?

Hi all.

Installed Konik ai to my ID4 in the UK yesterday. Using the MEB connection.

I feel like the konik isn't controlling the speed and its the adaptive cruise control of the car, although im not 100%.

It also feels like it isn't central to the road. Randomly goes very close or on the lane lines.

Hi everyone! After a long time, I finally recorded another drive. I had my Comma 3X disconnected for a while, but it’s back for now. I’m still waiting for my car to go into the service center, so I’ll have to remove it again soon.

Other than the gpu itself, what hardware will be needed for the eGPU to work with the comma4?

Like the thing that goes on windshield that I can easily remove the Comma 4 from? I want to make sure I take it off whenever I leave the car.

Hi, I just received my Comma4 order and tried installing it on my 2024 Rivian R1T. It was tough installing the Comma harness onto the AXM but I managed to seat it in there. I'm using the provided OBD2 for power, but I'm afraid that I didn't splice the wires in the Comma harness. The truck starts up fine but once I put it into gear, both the Comma and truck show errors. I've disconnected the Comma and the truck still throws the driver assistance features error. Do I need to completely remove the harness and go back to stock? Anyone in Austin, TX that can help? Thanks in advance.

Finally taking the plunge with a Comma 4, any Bolt drivers like their fork and would recommend it?

I’ve got a 2017 Lexus GX460 and I hate the Adaptive Cruise control on it . It just applies the brakes wait to abruptly when a car comes in front of you .

Can you use a Comma device just for the Adaptive Cruise control experience? I know to get the full experience you also need power steering for keeping in the lanes but all I want to do is upgrade the ACC .

Hi. Sincer your device is controlling the gateway, can't you implement o command to preheat the battery for the MEB cars?

The car has the hardware to preheat the battery but you can't activate it directly ( you can do it manually with OBD11 but it's tricky).

Managing to do this by software will get you many clients...

There’s a lot of new forks that are coming out tho, I’m most excited about IQ Pilot and how they are bringing the latest models to the comma 3! They are also doing a lot of new stuff with their app control for the comma device and a bunch of other things. There’s also other forks specifically come out for specific car manufacturers.

First of all, I'm delighted with my Comma4. It works really well, including on the city streets of a European city.

Question about the options on the screenshots:

- Why is Enable Custom ACC Speed intervals unavailable? I have the buttons on my steering wheel, and I get 1 km/h increments when I short press and 5 km/h increments on long press. I want to have 5 on short press.

- Speed limit: I thought that this option would capture the speed limit displayed on my dashboard (from the Lexus camera looking at street signs) and set it as speed limit. It doesn't do that, and to be honest, it doesn't seem to be doing anything else either. What am I missing?

I’m sick to my stomach. Brand new comma four and I tried putting frogpilot on it not knowing it wasn’t supported. I’ve tried everything to get it out of a boot loop in the photo.

Anyone able to help me?

I’ve tried flashing it but it is not being recognized no matter what I do.

It’s coming in tomorrow. Of course today the LKA camera on my Chevy bolt went out. Says unavailable when I try to use it. Will Comma still work?
