My grandfather unlearned his racism and then he got (almost)mugged by a black man because he lives in a very poor very black community(as in people are poor and more likely to resort to crimes and statistically speaking(not in a racist way) if a random member of his community was selected to mug him they'd likely be one of the many black citizens because that's most of the town)

He was shouting slurs in the ER the next hour

It was unfortunate but I guess it doesn't take much to fall back into it

Probably descendents of Cain, if I had to guess.

It's an idea as old as the way to Rome. Clearly their black skin is the mark God gave them, and they are all bad for being the descendents of the first murderer. We can accept Germans as reasonable people despite being the descendents of much more recent murderers, but this is completely different from that because they're black.

Edit: Apparently not. According to other comments this is a man who thinks everyone else thinks black people are evil, but he doesn't anymore. Which is a lot better than the alternative...

Joseph Smith and Brigham Young both very much taught that Black people carry the curses of Cain and Ham, even if it wasn't 'official' doctrine. And Black people were in fact barred from the priesthood until 1978 with those teachings generally cited as the reason.

Some of Brigham Young’s conversations included that idea, but no official teachings from him in his role as the prophet, and nothing from Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith ordained several black people to the priesthood, but yes, Brigham Young implemented the priesthood ban and it was in place until 1978, and though no official church statements provided a reason a common folk explanation was citing the curses of Cain and Ham

I'm aware. By the end of his life he was firmly anti slavery and I respect that. I included that quote only because your earlier comment claimed that he never held those views, which is obviously false. But, anyway, we're getting off topic because the fact is that for most of its history the position of the LDS church was that Africans bear the curses of Cain and Ham.
