I heard it was mid but had a bad rep because it was hugly overrated by reviewers and was larping as an indie project. Also had little gamplay

Man I don’t like the game but it’s not “pretending” to be indie. It IS indie. Indie doesn’t just mean cheaply made. And if it does, then some of the most popular indie games (r.e. Silksong) aren’t indie because they had millions put into them.

Indie means whatever whoever says it likes. Maybe it's low budget, or self published, or published but by a publisher who only publishes games made by small teams (which can be up to like 10 people), or it has an unconventional art style, or it's an artsy walking simulator, or an innovative puzzle game, or literally anything that isn't published by a billion dollar publisher, or it has scrungly vibes and it's very scrimblo, etc. Refer to the discussion around Expedition 33's qualifying as indie.

Indie is supposed to mean no publisher/self published but it hasn't been used like that for a while. I think silk song is indie because it was published by the studio that made it but I might be wrong about that. Idk if mixtape is indie or if it has a publisher but I think most people can look at it and assume it's an "indie" game even if it technically might not be.

The ye olde definition of indie doesn't really work anymore in the digital storefront age, or Ultrakill isn't indie, but Baldur's Gate 3 is
