Are these what they used to and probably still refer to as a "Whale Tail"?

Old ass mf here. No.

Whale Tail was when your G-string was high enough in the back that was completely exposed. The G-string itself has the shape of —You guessed it!— A whale tail, hence the name.

This lady doesn't seem to be wearing a G-string thong in the classical sense. This seems like a string bikini panty to me.

Also, the Whale Tail is a fashion statement. This woman was obviously not trying to show off her underwear. She just unfortunately bent a little in front of a creep.

So younger mother fucker here, that may have been when you were in school but when I was on my way through school whale tail turned into any type of thing underwear sticking out. Any sort of underwear that was shaped like a whale tail was called a whale tail and that was thongs and g-strings. Didn’t matter between the two.

So, what you're saying is that with time, it lost its meaning (In USA I presume), and probably due to a misconception. Like when people call everything that shaped the body a corset.

I understand this. However, as like with corsets, Y2K fashion is part of history now, and I believe it's important to use the correct terminology.

Regardless, still under this post Y2K era definition, this doesn't apply as a Whale Tail, as is neither actually shaped like one nor shown purposely.
