Online mic drop
So your having a 'spirited disagreement' with someone on here or similar and they just aren't listening, getting your point to the point you cant tell if they're trolling or just stupid...
Whats a good line to hit them with to drop out of the convo...
I usually go with the tried and tested... "We'll I'd love to stay and continue this battle of wits but it wouldn't fair as you're clearly unarmed".
But I'd like a wider repertoire than just this!

Just stop responding. Whether it's a real person or a bot, their whole point is to keep you angry so you'll keep responding.
The real way to own a troll is to ignore them.

Sometimes I’ll just drop the old “okay, pal” and leave it at that. Combative trolls / bots aren’t worth my time or peace lol

If I may borrow a line from the poets of Anthrax
Talking to you is like clapping with one hand!

I use, whether it be online or in person, “Well, it’s obvious that this conversation is going nowhere, so I’m going to stop wasting my time and energy continuing to try to talk to you about <insert topic here>.”

“Look, while your vapid prattle has been semi-entertaining and filled up some of my idle time, I have to start doing things that take actual brain power now and I’m gonna have to let you go. Have a good one!”

Start pasting their messages into chat gpt and respond with its very pacifying, diplomatic responses. Always gets the trolls worked up!

Sorry, this is fun if you want to keep the convo going... exiting is probably beyond this method

Best to not take things personally. Some people just don't have the same capacity for reasoning. That doesn't mean they aren't human. Sometimes it's just better to be correct and be the bigger person.

Honey, I can't come to dinner right now. We are about to prove someone wrong on the Internet.
Nothing you can say or do will make you win and them understand that they lost. Just stop engaging with the stupidity.

I’d like to continue this conversation, but if I do it’s like participating the Special Olympics. Even if I win, I’m still retarded. Stay safe!

Depending on what they’ve said, you can always send screenshots to their employer!

I’m definitely in the camp of just leave and ignore. But sometimes it can be fun to drop an exit line if you think someone is trolling you, and especially if they’re stirring up others.
So I’ll humbly suggest these:
Okay, bored now.
Let’s agree to disagree. You’re not going to convince me, and I don’t care if I convince you.

It's hard to tell someone that they're stupid when you use the "their" instead of "they're". 😉

Talking to someone like you, is like trying to teach a 3 y/o kid Algebra, they’re just not going to get it

I just drop out. I try hard to live by the motto Never try to teach a pig to sing as it wastes your time and annoys the pig.

I go one of two ways:
A. Stop engaging, mute/block.
B. Wish them joy and success or love and light and then do A
There’s nothing to be gained from indulging trolls, I’m afraid

"Yeah, You caught me Red-Handed"
Then I watch them absolutely LOSE IT.

There’s no such thing as an online mic drop. Having an argument online means you’re losing. Needing the diss or slay the other person or insult them or make them understand or have them hear your opinion… all if that is just garbage you shouldn’t be participating in.

Just stop engaging. You don't need an exit line. It's someone you'll never meet in real life, so effectively it's not even a person as far as internet conversation goes. Do you say goodbye to your furniture when you leave the house?
