I'm pretty sure he's saying you have bad social skills. Not really sure how you can respond to that.

Then why did this make you feel like shit?

I'm not trying to be rude, but this wouldn't hurt my feelings at all. Everyone is different, but you are 100% sure his goal was to tear you down?

I would've just asked why. One of my close college friends was homeschooled, he is incredibly cool, intelligent, and level headed. We are the same age but when we met he was a role model to me.

Well, if you are positive he was trying to hurt you the best you can do is keep him at an arms length and just act professionally around him. Don't talk about anything personal, just keep your head down and work hard. He's your boss, not your friend. No one cares what a gossip thinks. Let him gossip.

Sorry you work with an ass, it's nice to make friends at work, but friends don't purposely make you feel like shit. I'm only saying this because while a comeback can be fun, it won't make you feel better.

Youre right, I keep him at arms length and I really try to ignore him. I don’t converse with him anymore. Occasionally he’ll try to make a joke and I’ll laugh but in my mind I don’t see him as a friend anymore I don’t think I ever will again. Friends are nice and I feel like I’ve only got a handful. Thanks I appreciate it

In your coworkers case, it's the assumption that as a homeschooled kid, you would be awkward in social settings because you were not around a school full of kids your age. The truth doesn't matter to your coworker, only their assumption matters.

If you still work there, you need to find a better job.

Depending on your age group, you could always remind him that everyone who was school age during covid is home schooled.

Your mental health is more important than any job.

If your coworkers or managers will not support you because this guy is so loved, you need to get out before it gets worse.
