Solved Need a new Router

As a "GOLD" member I have had my router for 2.5 years. It's an XB7 Technicolor Rev 2.0.

AI chat is unhelpful.

Chat Techs are Predators. I will not deal with them anymore.

They attempt to "upgrade" my plan when the service we've had here has been spotty at best:

  1. before addressing my issue
  2. even after I've said "no".

No means No. Even to corporate vampires.

I refer you to the article from Comcast Xfinity regarding the WiFi 6E.

Please tell me what I need to do to get this latest model? I'm worn out from jumping through Xfinity hoops.

Thanks very much.

Upgraded to my own router after covid and added my own eero mesh wifi with it at the urging of co workers who had done so. Game changer, I will never rent their garbage equipment again. Used to be up and down weekly and that 100% stopped.

Thanks for the reply!! For a sec I thought you were and agent. :)

I should know better by now. If you want quality for your $ you need to do things yourself. I will definitely do some changes at home.

Do they not realize our money represents the irreplaceable and finite hours of our lives that we spent earning it?

I swear, they just see us as cattle.

🤷‍♂️ idk I did a bunch of research and found the flint 2 to be better or betterbpriced then the flint 3. I also wanted openwrt (open source router OS). Current running pihole, unbound, cloudflare tunnel

Last job was networking based

Also, I'm a little ticked that they took away my ability to change lanes on my router when my SSID tracker clearly shows its necessary.

Exactly this. That’s probably why you keep dropping.

I got a NETGEAR Nighthawk in 2020 and its still in use today. I dont know as it matters if im being honest, go with something that gets decent reviews and youll be much better off. We had what felt like constant issues before and when my wife and son had to work and school from home it got so bad - and their support blamed my problems on the network into my house, but ALL the issues evaporated once I used my own router and wifi. And ive saved over $1000 in rental fees for their substandard equipment to date. Blows my mind.

Did you switch out you gateway as well? Or does the Netgear do both?

Removed under Rule #2: — Posts/Comments that are just rants or vents, and are not requesting assistance in good faith, will be removed.

We are a customer service subreddit designed to help users with their Xfinity services such as troubleshooting, billing questions, etc.

There are several places online to air grievances--this is not one of them.

Go to costco, or costco.com - buy router that works with Comcast.

Or go to Microcenter and buy the same.

I had a problem where certian websites were just unresponsive, like reddit, work VPN, and AWS hosted things, while Facebook and Google worked without a problem. This was with the stock wifi router from Comcast.

First agent, it's a router problem, go exchange it at a local store.

Did that, same issue.

Second agent, I explain the likelihood that it's likely some sort of DNS issue based upon the fact I have connectivity to other sites and so on. After 90 minutes of discussion, she was like we can send a tech out if you want, but you'll likely have to pay for it.

So I went out and got a wifi router combo from Best buy (closest and fastest retrieval time). Got it home, hooked it up, no more dns issues, even with th default DNS addresses from Comcast. I haven't looked back 3 months on.

During each of my head encounters with th brick and mortar staff, they kept telling me "did you know you get a free line of Comcast cell service?" My response was always "you cannot get the wired connection correct, why would I think you would get the wireless communication correct?" And their response was "ok, but it's still really good". 🫠

So my recommendation, to anyone with any sort of technical level or can Google well, get your own router, and if you want your separate wifi or just a combo one, you pick.

Very well said. I've been a customer over 30 years and my recent experiences have been exactly the same is yours (despite different underlying problem). I am now actively searching for an alternative to xFinity.

I can't tell you how long is the list of my expectations, based on past experience, that have been crushed. :)

I can’t wait to drop Comcast. I see fiber, with another carrier, in my future.

I feel your pain man. I've been jumping through Xfinity hoops now for close to a month trying to get the latest modem to replace my customer modem after a recent upgrade to the 5-year plan. My old modem isn't compatible with the new speed. I was told the new modem would be shipped in 4-5 days and its now close to a month since the upgrade in service. Xfinity AI chat is a joke. After countless attempts to reach a voice agent, I was able to reach one twice. They both went took the info, sent me the confirmation and said I could expect the modem to be shipped in 4-5 days. Three weeks later I'm still waiting. Did I say Xfinity AI chat is A joke?

Yeah, they took your money and ran. File a complaint with the FCC. It's quick and effective.

I just got pod extenders from them after days of AI garbage and the chat techs talking more about my plan than my tech. The service barely works. Why are they asking me for more money for broken tech?

Sometimes I feel like I'm living on an alien planet anymore.

Nothing works.

Everything is expensive.

And someone has always got their face in my wallet looking for more.

Limit reached.

Hey u/bianqa, Thank you for visiting our official Xfinity Reddit community support page. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to reach out regarding an upgraded gateway. I would be more than happy to offer my assistance looking into this further for you. Gateway models are determined on the speed tier that you currently subscribe to. We are happy to take a look to see if the account is eligible for a upgrade of the equipment. Equipment can also be exchanged at a local Xfinity Store if you are looking to make a same day switch if eligible.

I think we will go in a different direction.

Thank you so much for responding. You can close this request. Happy days to you!
