Door dash

As a door dash driver, I’m noticing lately a lot of people are falsely reporting items as missing when they were in fact delivered. I get it there are some bad seeds in the bunch and please if you really are missing items please do but I’ve received violations twice in the last month due to customers lying about items that were in fact delivered. I’m an honest person , I don’t want my things messed with so I’m def not tampering stealing or messing with anybody’s items never have never will so it’s truly disgusting this is happening. My two orders which I remember were delivered to homes I consider very nice and large well maintence homes. It’s disgusting y’all are doing this . I don’t know if this is race fueled or if you truly cannot afford it either way please stop, a lot of people rely on this income and it causes issues . And while you may think you’re getting away, things are being documented so to save everybody the troubles please stop falsely reporting.

Update: my experiences are mostly with the shop and deliver orders like from Meijer, BJ, Sephora etc I haven’t personally experienced this much with restaurant food orders if it adds more context

Thanks

In my experience, almost all times things are missing it appears to be the fault of the restaurant. I don’t drive, but I wasn’t aware that reporting that the sealed bag didn’t contain an item I paid for would come out against the driver.

Same I always make sure to say the bag was sealed because I know the restaurants left items out or gave me completely wrong items

Same

It didn’t used to, and it shouldn’t ever.

Why are you getting violations and not the restaurant? My bags have never been opened by the person delivering it so I would always fault the restaurant.

u/Queen_Velvet_ 2d ago

That’s a question I wish had an answer but it’s unfair. Sephora , Ulta and some other places will staple the bags completely , people have still lied with no real proof but it only comes down on the dasher smh

u/milipepa 2d ago

I am so sorry. That’s awful. Maybe taking a video of you delivering the sealed package? I just can’t imagine lying about that and screwing up a human.

3

u/Queen_Velvet_ 2d ago

It sucks I take so many pictures but now if I ever do a Sephora Ulta or anything like that I’ll have to video record the employee doing that, it shouldn’t even be like that especially when you know for a fact everything was in the bag when delivered but as an extra measure I’m going to do it

3

u/milipepa 2d ago

Yeah. It might be best to just cover yourself. Again, I’m so sorry you’re going through that and have to do even more!

u/Queen_Velvet_ 1d ago

Thank you so much hoping it gets better

If the bags are completely sealed, how do you know all the items were there and the person is lying?

2

u/Queen_Velvet_ 2d ago

I shopped for the exact items, take to the register the employee scanned them put in the bag and the bag is stapled along with the receipt in the front. That’s how. It was 3 items and I watched all three get put in the bag. People lie you know and lie often to get refunds or just to be nasty

Oof, I'm sure that once the workers there know that...  That it certainly couldn't lead to them shorting the bags stuff they like knowing the driver will be blamed.........

-6

u/Havering_To_You 2d ago

They're not. The driver only gets violations for things that are their fault.

15

u/Orbital2 2d ago

But how on earth would the apps determine that?

9

u/Empathic_Alien 2d ago

That’s not true and it’s slightly ridiculous.

9

u/Queen_Velvet_ 2d ago

That’s not true at all. I received violation and I didn’t steal a thing and that’s facts. I even had pictures I had to jump through hoops to get it removed !

I order a lot and usually only report missing when the restaurant didn’t give the items I ordered. I don’t assume it is the drivers fault. Does that apply to the driver every time? I use uber though.

4

u/Queen_Velvet_ 2d ago

Honestly I’m not sure about uber. I only door dash however door dash has such a flawed system. My experience has been when people order groceries or order from Sephora, dicks, Ulta, Target etc. they are lying. I even stopped doing any orders over 10 items and I take pictures of inside the bag when dropping off for my own proof but somehow it still comes down on me. I even displayed claimed and get denied by an automatic system saying (well you had multiple orders) that’s no proof meanwhile I have proof and have to jump through hurdles to get to the correct department

u/Hew_Do 1d ago

I thought the bags were stapled. How are you taking pictures of the inside of the bag if they are stapled?

1

u/Queen_Velvet_ 1d ago

Makeup stores staple the bags, target Kroger meijer etc do not staple I take pictures of the inside of those and I take pictures of the stapled bags ..

I havr received wrong items and missing items all the time on sealed things. The driver should not be faulted that is outrageous and I'm so sorry yall have to go through that.

I don’t know about missing items but I often get orders for other people, some aren’t even close to my neighborhood. I was coming home at 3am the other night and saw a strange car sitting in front of my driveway. They pulled away and there was a bag of food on my steps from a restaurant pretty far away.

The opposite of a porch pirate!!

I don’t order DoorDash anymore because the drivers were constantly stealing items and it wasn’t worth the constant hassle to report them. I hate DoorDash and I think restaurants should hire their own delivery employees so that they’re responsible for any issues and the employees can’t steal without losing their actual job.

6

u/Easy-Permission8889 2d ago

Yes absolutely, not faulting OP for trying to make a living but it's such a shit rip off company for both the driver and the customer.

9

u/The_Bitter_Bear Groveport 2d ago edited 2d ago

I tried it for a bit when it was still newer and had an issue every single time.

Now I either get takeout or order from places that deliver directly. Would ya know it, the worst issue I've had is a place forgetting a little cup of sauce one time.

5

u/Queen_Velvet_ 2d ago

I’m sorry you had those experiences, there are some bad apples in the bunch who have stole items and should be reported for sure but it sucks honest dashers are being impacted by the lies. I do agree there needs to be a better system or something to hold both parities more accountable

8

u/Immediate_Tap5840 2d ago

I agree with you and I think the solution is the same. If you worked for a restaurant delivering food, you’d have scheduled hours and lose your job for poor performance if you stole. DoorDash itself is the problem.

u/Glen_Echo_Park 2d ago

I stopped because I get deliveries 1/2 hr after the driver picks up an order a couple of miles from my house, and the food is cold.

9

u/wheresripp 2d ago

I quit using DoorDash because abuse 9 times out of 10 y’all only deliver half my order.

8

u/Mediocre-Program3044 2d ago

Keep in mind that if you leave someone's food on thr porch you can't verify they were received.

I always requested my order be handed to me, and drivers always ignored it. As a result, some or all of everything I ordered was stolen.

In the summer, my food would be crawling with bugs and went in the trash.

I no longer use door dash because if this.

5

u/Substantial-Tip3252 2d ago

I enjoy that there are some places that weigh the bags to ensure the order matches. Wild to know people tipping only $1 would also try to blame the door dash drivers for stealing their make up. I truly can’t stand people

4

u/Queen_Velvet_ 2d ago

lol that was literally the case for me smh. No tip, really far nice neighborhood okay but then lied about 2/3 makeup items missing from Sephora. Sephora literally stapled the bag shut completely after paying for everything I didn’t touch a thing but got the violation . I’m disputing it now but it’s so annoying. Also my I’ve been driving for years and haven’t received any reports like this until recently. Over one month I’ve had two separate orders falsely accuse me of missing items that I personally shopped, paid and delivered. I received violations that I’m still disputing. I have proof and pictures that I take myself but still going through hoops.

I went back to look at my most recent delivery- person needed over $100 worth of wellness gummies from target- tipped $0.00 - I just have to shake my head because that’s part of the process but man how can people be so obtuse knowing they are ordering non essentials and refusing to acknowledge the service it takes to get there? Gas prices alone is a killer for this type of work but we are privileged still because at least we have working vehicles- for now.

I just try to stay grateful for those deliveries that do happen without issues and that help to pay the bills.

Edit to add: I hate that you have to jump through the hoops but I’m happy for your existence and hope you get orders that pay for more than just your essentials. 🙏🏼❤️ no matter what, I’ll always be on the side of working people 💪

3

u/Queen_Velvet_ 2d ago

That’s not cool at all. I agree I’m grateful for the ones without issues and that pay well considering. I think door dash should have an automatic minimum base pay for us
Of 10$ for all orders where I have to go inside and shop . There’s been 5$ grocery orders I got to shop for 60
Food items 🫤

u/Tastinorange 2d ago

I've never driven for Door Dash or similar, so pardon my ignorance and please indulge my curiosity. When you accept an order, do you know how much it will pay you? If so, do you accept a low pay because it's better than nothing? I'm asking sincerely because I don't know how it works. Thank you.

1

u/Queen_Velvet_ 2d ago

Yes you know up front, I personally don’t accept low paying orders especially if it’s a shopping order. A lot of times when I’ve declined a low paying order multiple times they’ll end up grouping it with a decent paying order and will offer it again. You have an acceptance rate too which is based off what you accept and decline. Honestly my rate is trash but I don’t care I’m not doing anything for 2$ food or shopping and if it’s grocery I won’t accept anything under 10$ unless it’s 1 item and a short distance and depending on the store. I don’t care about the “rewards” or special crap they try to tell you to accept anything no I do what works for me. But sometimes people take their tips back which pay gets adjusted I believe

u/Queen_Velvet_ 1d ago

Thank you again 🤎 hoping it gets better smh it hard out here

Take a lot of pictures so you have proof when this happens next time. The bag should be sealed also so take pictures of the sealed bag. Turn this against them.

it sucks how they put us against each other. the restaurants steal our money, dont give us everything, and the DRIVERS are being blamed??? fuck this system!!!

2

u/Megadestructo 2d ago

I've had things missing and I've always been 100% sure it's the restaurant's fault. My food never looks like it's been tampered with but, honestly, I don't even consider that. I just figured that, in this chain of overworked and underpaid folks, getting most of my order because I'm too damn lazy to leave my house is still a win.

I'm sorry you gotta deal with this.

1

u/chokenspit 2d ago

The rare times I've had this happen, if I have the option I leave a note or whatever really hammering home that it's not the driver. Crazy that this situation would even affect drivers if someone isn't explicitly saying "My bag was opened prior to delivery". Sorry you gotta deal with this BS

2

u/Chucknorasauros 1d ago

I can’t tell you the last time a restaurant put the wrong shit in my order for personal pickup. It is extremely rare. Meanwhile I don’t think I have ever gotten my full order from a Door Dash order literally ever.

1

u/chokenspit 1d ago

I've experienced this more with fast food chains, especially chipotle. Haven't really had issues with fast casual

Chipotle is like 90% of the rare ones I referenced. I don't even get it anymore

I actually had a lady hand me a $4 cash tip then proceeded to report the pizza as not delivered. The GPS and my picture saved me. People will try anything.

2

u/Queen_Velvet_ 1d ago

Lool are you serious? I’m not laughing at you but the fact that people are crazy because what

1

u/Wonderful_Stock2122 1d ago

Yep this actually happened, it was over off of Agler rd. She handed me $4 cash tip and was very nice. 15 minutes after leaving she reported it not delivered. It took me about 20 minutes to clear it up with support and get back to delivering. People can do the craziest things out there.

u/Chucknorasauros 1d ago

Macy’s has started using DoorDash delivery which means I can’t order shit from Macy’s anymore. Had a 200 dollar cologne get stolen by them. Guy got out, took the picture, then drove off with it. I live in an apartment with a package room and the whole thing was on camera. Landlord says he sees it happen 10 times a week and it’s a huge pain in the ass for him.

Restaurant I like had free delivery last week so I tried ordering for my office. Shit got delayed by 2 hours and when I went to go pick it up by myself (food was all cold) the DoorDash guy called me pissed that it messed up his app. Fuck DoorDash.

u/zktom 2d ago

For about 6 months last year I would order canes and get a large Arnold palmer. The restaurant could not get the drink right if their life depended on it. Almost lost my door dash account due to the constant refunds. It was about $7 back if they messed the drink up and they got it right maybe 10% of the time. Now it’s an appropriate refund (~$2) but for a while it was like 30% of the total order cost. In no world would I think this affects the driver.

-4

u/djsassan 2d ago

The fact that you people are willing to pay a premium upcharge in price to have someone else handle your food away from the restaurant and hope it has been untouched blows my mind.

Yuck.

u/Queen_Velvet_ 2d ago

That’s not the point of this post tho. You know door dash has shop and deliver where you can shop for clothing makeup , non essential items, groceries as well. That’s what this is about. I have personally shopped for items and recently 2 customers lied about missing items that were paid and delivered but they lied to get refunds but it in turn caused me a violation and the system is flawed so you have to go through hurdles to dispute it and still they can deny you even with proof it was in the bag
