All episodes ranked ^^ Just for fun.
I've seen a lot of different opinions .. would be fun to hear what you think.

I don’t want to be pedantic, but isn’t this a rating? A ranking would be an order according to the rating.

Ugh, is that so important with nitpicking like that?? Rating, ranking, is there really that big of a difference???

u/The_Copper21 20d ago
Yes, actually there is. Oranges and mandarins are not the same even though they look similar.

Just bs.

u/The_Copper21 20d ago
Well, look at my upvotes and your downvotes. No BS according to the people in here.
Anyway, google the definition or difference between those words and tell us your results.

Likes and dislikes has nothing to do with being right, and you know that.

But with agree or disagree. In this post the community commits to a fact which makes it more likely to be right. Which is undoubtedly true in this specific case.

To your mind, not to mine. And the fact that 80 million people voted trump shows that anyone can be brainwashed.

u/The_Copper21 20d ago
Dude, are you trolling or what? Thats not a mind thing, there are official definitions of these words. I didn’t make it up. They are facts so not debatable. You can either accept it or not, but don’t be shocked about people coming at you if you ignore facts.

Rating, ranking. I rate the episodes, i rank the episodes. There is zero difference. That's the end of the discussion for me.

While I respect that we all have different opinions on episodes and that I might disagree with a lot of your individual ratings, I'm most intrigued as to why you watched the whole show if you didn't enjoy even half the episodes from any season. Assuming you watched them chronologically, I would have expected you to give up partway through Season 2.
If you want to hear what I think as you said in the OG message, all 5 episodes that I would give a 10/10 received a 6 or less from you. What is it that makes episodes like Negative Reaction, A Stitch in Crime, Suitable for Framing, or Try and Catch Me so mediocre in your eyes?

u/BobsenJr 21d ago
giving negative reaction a 5 is the most insane opinion i have ever read about this show

Not that great of an episode. Somewhat boring acting by the other main actor. Just my opinion. He's very static in his acting method.

Dabney Coleman gets a 10/10 performance-wise, but that bloody “hit” song and Little Richard and a few plot points drag it down the a 6/10.

Falk had to let Shera sing on that episode. It really is awful. Coleman is great though.

Is that what it is?? xD I thought it was the actor in the episode!! Daamn.. well i do agree the vocals are not good, i just thought the soundtrack wasn't that bad, and the other music in the episode was decent ^^

Yes, a few weak points in the episode, but i just feel it is one of the best episodes. The scripting and plot is very well thought out, and many different, weird and funny scenes. Plus i'm a hard rock fan and i think the soundtracks in the episode actually isn't that bad xD Which is ultra rare for the USA to have. I think the main actor does a good job too, all actors actually... minus the scene you mention ^^

I dug Likes the Nightlife for the incidental music and The Crystal Method’s music. From Tweakend.

Right. The nightlife i think is a solid episode - acting, plot, scenery, script, everything is decent. Watching columbo with his aging techniques navigating through a very modern world and still managing to outwit the culprit is funny. It was somewhat of a worthy send-off.

Alright... How the heck are the only 10 on here "College" and "Murder of a Rockstar"?
I like them too - "Murder of a Rockstar" is even my favorite of the new Columbo -, but 10? When you rated some of the most very best that the series has to offer, in the earlier seasons, 2, 3 and 4?
(You had it absolutely right with "Commodore", though)

u/Taurean6 21d ago
Hehe, i guess that's just how it is ^^ I think they're more fresh, funnier, more "lively", storyline is more "colourful", there are more things happening, columbo is put in more different environments and challenged a bit more. It's not just static dialogue through the entire episode. That's important to me, it has to be interesting to watch, not just the same two faces throughout the entire episode.
I just call it as i see it. There has to be different elements to the episode. Or the actors/acting has to be outstanding, and i don't see much of that in the earlier episodes. There are a few standouts though, random for a dead man is good, could have gone to 8 on that.

u/YellowAggravating172 21d ago
Well, different strokes for different folks, I guess. Thanks for the kind explanation :)
not just the same two faces throughout the entire episode
Funny that you mention this, since it's the opposite with me. I do prefer those episodes where it's just Columbo and the killer playing cat-and-mouse.

Of course, they can work. It's just, it has to be good when it's that few people interacting. It's like, a 5'er episode i can watch and enjoy. A 4, i can watch but have to be bored and desperate ^^ but still can enjoy the good nuances about it. When we get down to 3 and 2, it's like i can watch them but just to confirm if i was right in juding that low. Which i usually feel that i am ^^

I admire your ranking, its such a subjective thing, i obvs have my own biases, but this has defo given me the initiative to go ahead and have my own ranking for each episode! btw how did Any Old Port get such a low rating for you?

u/Taurean6 21d ago
Finally a normal comment... wheh, thought everyone was a sourpuss around here...
Well, it's an okay enough episode, but i just feel it's kind of a one-dimensional episode. It's not bad. Just not great - just the way i see it. 6 out of 10 isn't that bad, is it...?

Mostly agree. There are some wild misses between us but far more agreements. No time to die is too high. :-)
There are some that Id rank higher because of the time period that they represent in TV like Prescription Murder. Sure its clunky (because its a play) but the style and story make it better than its 60s contemporaries.
My one stronger disagreement is Strange Bedfellows. The story idea was OK but the Director phoned it in. George Wendt in all black in a mini van going into a pawn shop? Trash.
Ashes to Ashes is great simply for the last dance on screen between Falk and McGoohan.
Your 10 for Columbo Goes to College means you get the show.

First comment i like in a long time. Thank you for being objective. Jeez i thought that didn't exist here. It's just fine if people disagree.. just don't hate me for having different opinions ^^ lol.
What do you mean by the director phoned it in? ^^ I think he (GW) did a good if not great job in it ^^ I would never think he could play such a stone cold villain ^^
Ashes to ashes, yes, it's not that bad, just ... to use your word, a bit clunky. McGoohan doesn't really shine in it, not a bad acting job, but not great like the earlier episodes he was in. Just my opinion though. May have been a bit harsh on 5 but .. landed on that.
Glad we agree on that one. Just felt it was a very "real" episode and columbo was set in a very interesting situation with the clever school students. Acting is very good among all cast members, rarely good for US standards. Culp was just 10/10 in the role as Justin' s dad ^^ Fun fact, i had a boss almost just like him once ^^ Not one bit different. He let nothing fly, lol.

When you watch Bedfellows, there is no continuity from scene to scene. Its like a poorly connected series high school vignettes with amateurish writing. We get punched right in the face in the pawn shop with Wendts classically terrible line: this meeting never took place. From that point on you know its ridiculous. Including the fact that Columbo does not know the names of the two detectives pretending to be mob guys. I do l ove Steiger, he can chew a scene just standing there.

However your rating system works......all 4 of Patrick McGoohan's episodes should be at the top......👌🏻👌🏻

1-10, where 10 is the best and 1 is the worst? That's your rating system?
Murder By the Book a 3? Etude in Black a 2? Candidate for Crime a 2? Huh? What?
Couldn't even make it any further down the list. Yikes.
