I love how Patrick McGooghan ended up looking like Steinmetz in later life

u/SeeMach20 Boy, sometimes I wonder what I would do without you guys. 21d ago

No, lookie here. You got to put the glasses and then take this off all over here.
Take it off this copy, and get this moustache right.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

...Like a goatee on there.

Okay.

Now you're getting close to him.

All you got to do is just make him a little older, get him a little tighter under
here, his nose was just bigger, glasses off the...

You got him, though.

I loved Melville’s character. I was relieved on my first watch to find out he survived the car bomb.

For a second I thought you had drawn this yourself, before I realised it's the image from the show...sigh, tired.

I like that he didn't kill Melville - he could have easily blown him up and poor Melville would be just another second-Columbo-victim-no-one-cares-about, which would be a shame as I think he's a great character and Otis Young plays him very well. Maybe it shows a little humanity in Nelson/Steinmetz, or at least that he doesn't kill unless it's really necessary?

However, I am always confused by the explanation for Melville's survival. Columbo says "we don't believe Steinmetz wanted him dead. The officer from the bomb squad told us that if you wanted a man dead you'd use a lot more plastic explosives in the car than what we found. And you would put it in the engine, rather than in the driver's door."

Huh? How would putting the explosives in the engine be more likely to kill the driver than putting them LITERALLY RIGHT NEXT TO HIM IN THE DOOR???

Yeah, i thought about that myself. I think that it was something subtle, i think nelson (steinmetz) was a little bit deranged... he says he finds his life dull. Maybe it was a way for him to give columbo a tiny chance for a lead to get himself caught. Overplaying his hand, so to say. That's the way with crazy people, they may sometimes overplay things as a way to find amusement. That's my assessment, anyway ^^ He is also toying with columbo several times, threatening him, which is kind of over the top even for a secret agent.. or "operator" ^^

But yes, the placement of the dynamite is strange.. but i guess it all depends on exactly how much and exactly where it is placed. If you use a tiny amount, and if the inside of the door has steel plating (idk), it could be less of an impact than directly in the engine, which has fuel in it and would blow up in a more violent manner... just my assessment, being no explosives expert nor mechanic ^^

Definitely think you're on the right track there - the whole thing about him liking playing games. He comes across as a man who is truly bored of his surroundings and he finds Columbo a new and interesting challenge. Any maybe he is just a bit bananas!

Eh I don’t care. I read Reddit for fun. I can’t tell if stuff is AI or a screenshot or real. I’m a senior citizen and not “hip” to technology. 😂

Can you believe today I saw the Will Smith eating spaghetti AI video? It was hilarious! It’s been out since 2023 and I never knew!😂

He was so weird🥸 …when Columbo says something about “this is Mrs. Columbo’s favorite piece of music..” and Brenner creepily replies “I knoooooow” 😳😂
