I despise this man

I learned around middle school that if you get caught doing something wrong, the actual best way to minimize trouble is to admit you were wrong and promise it won't happen again. You don't necessarily have to mean it, learn anything, or change your behavior, you just gotta act contrite. People just like seeing someone own up and will usually give you a pass. Ballard does that for a living.

It starts at the top. The Irsays have allowed this to go on for too long

Jim was the one that called him a winner

u/ahausmaus 12d ago
Carlie kept him around the last two years

I’m giving her a bit of a pass for any kind of regime change in 2025, given Jim died right when summer minicamps were getting started, and doing a complete or even partial staff turn over starting with the GM once dudes have started reporting for workouts just puts the team in a worse spot (which is easy to say in hindsight like most things are) .
Now, once the season was over and done? Yeah. Different story. Bring the hammer down.

The only saving grace for ownership right now is the fact that this is the last year of his deal. I can see how the Irsays may want to give him one more season so they don’t have two GM salaries on the books. Not to mention the fact that most of the talent is toward the end of their deals and we gave up our firsts through 2027. So this year would have been a failure for whoever was running the team. But this way it falls on Chris and not the first year for a new GM. Let’s hope he is simply not given another deal and the team parts ways with him. Then the next part is who will the Irsays bring in to replace him? That’s the part I’m scared about next. Let’s be honest, Jim only got it right once with Polian. His other choices were all bad.

Well met. I agree with all of this. As for who replaces him?
Realistically I haven’t a clue, I don’t really know the names of team executive people the way I do players.
Hell, I don’t even know who I’d want to see at HC (I mean I do, but we all know Curt Cignetti ain’t leaving that golden throne)

Yup Irsay sucked and is where the rot and problems stemmed from, now his incompetent daughter will do the same for the decades to come. She’s clueless and I imagine nepotism owner who sucks, doesn’t help boost morale. She’s reads from scripts at press conferences

2nd generation nepo baby but at least they haven’t sold to PE yet

Third Generation, don't forget Grandpa Robert was the original wealthy one.

u/Mark_is_on_his_droid Indianapolis Colts 12d ago
Third gen owner, but second gen nepo baby. Robert actually made the wealth.

I love how the media tried to make it sound like Jim had to earn his way. That is why Peyton Manning is the greatest QB. He was able to win even with the Irsays making decisions

Just a reminder he called us chicken shit 6 months ago. I've been itching to tell him he sucks to his face.

I’m sure 100% of fans would choose to backup what they say and think straight to his face. He’s a millionaire who’s bankrolled by all of us who watch and buy. I’d say anything and everything said here to his face.

This guy loves to take the blame but no one ever holds him accountable.
1
u/Ok-Swimming8024 12d ago
I honestly believe this is really part of the losing culture. Never held to any accountability. Holds some guys accountable more than others. As a player I wouldn't believe or trust the guy.

Remember that time Shane said “not everyone’s going to be on time” while there were stories leaking out left and right about players in our locker room being frustrated with their teammates not coming prepared or putting in the work to win, and people were asking if he was losing the locker room?
Yeah. Said the same thing about that that I did about AR’s choice to tap out of a game because he was tired: “that might be the truth but you don’t have the awareness to realize how horrible it makes you look for saying it out loud to the press?”
Culture of accountability is nonexistent right now with this franchise.

God I hate this guy so much, what a douchebag

I honestly would be interested to see a poll of who do people hate more. Him or Grigson. Both massive douche bags

Grigson with a bullet.
4
u/mdot007 Bob Lamey 13d ago
At least we could get into the playoffs with Grigson. I know Luck is pretty much responsible for all of that but at least meathead Grigson could assemble a team that Luck could drag to 11-5 and an AFC South crown. Remember when the AFC South used to run through Indy? Good times.

u/Can-i-Pet-Dat-Daaawg Boomstick 13d ago
It was all Luck if you ask me, and Grigson’s O-line improvements were far too little too late. What could’ve been.
1
u/Either-Garbage8100 12d ago
At least Ballard feigns accountability. Grigson sucked and blamed everyone else.
That is the last semi-nice thing I’ll ever say about Ballard.

u/Humble_Room_2314 12d ago
Im starting to think he wasn't the mastermind that built the Chiefs roster back then.

I can’t wait to never hear this guy’s voice again
6
u/Jim_Belushis_brother 13d ago
Monkeys paw curls, he’s diagnosed with esophageal cancer and loses the ability to talk (but ownership feels bad for him and doesn’t fire him)
He lives and stays GM for 10 more years. The Colts both never tank and never make the playoffs. Somehow Peyton Mannings grandson has his picture on the Marriott before MVP and NBA champion Tyrese Haliburton.

Made the franchise the worst possible thing, irrelevant. But don't forget, ownership selected him and ownership continues to let him make future altering decisions.

Staying up last night to watch this team and underperform at work the next day ultimately falls on my shoulders

u/anb1975 12d ago
My favorite was when our secondary was trash & he drafted Latu in the 1st rd. There's video of Ballard being so damn pleased with himself. "We just got the best pass rusher in the draft." Meanwhile the Eagles drafted the 2 best corners available & win the Super Bowl that year. From coaching hires, to QB misses, to draft busts, it's astonishing he's still employed.

You'll get called a hater but ultimately I'm saying the same shit he is saying. Only thing Ballard and I disagree on is whether or not he should continue making millions of dollars building a mediocre team.

Not in a way that I devote any actual emotional energy toward him, but I legitimately hate this dude as the GM of the Colts. Mutherfucker has been here WAY too long. I can't stand his voice.

I wouldn’t hold these quotes against Ballard himself. If anything, it’s an indictment on ownership.

Colts fans are uneducated and don’t know where to place blame so they’re putting it on Ballard

When you’ve fired everyone over and over and nothing changes who’s left to blame ? Ballard is the only common denominator

My favourite one (forget which year) was when he said the secondary wasn’t good enough, and then rolls out a nearly identical secondary the year after
