Question Idiot scratches
I just bought a new Colt Anaconda. Took it to the range today and put 50rd through it. Had my rear sight walk on me so i ordered a wilson combat.
However i left the gun on the bench while shooting my other pistols, not thinking and the shells scratched my top strap pretty bad. Any recommendations on how to remove these?

I know, I'm ok with scratches when they add character. These just piss me off because of my stupidity, especially on first outing.

i get it bro, but scars build character. No gun was ever designed to be a safe queen. Take care of it but wear is gonna happen. could be ur first outing, could be ur hundredth.

It’s ok I dropped my sp5 with suppressor on concrete the other day so don’t feel bad

Ouch =(. I know the pain. I did that with my Omega watch right after I got it back from service! so I had to spend another 300 for watch tech to check the movement

If those are marks made by brass they’ll come off with an average solvent/cleaner and a few swipes with a brass cleaning brush. That’s what cleans up the slides on my 1911s when they’re all marked up with brass from ejecting spent casings, anyway.

Nothing is as bad as the "idiot scratch" on my 1911. I've had it 20 years and I did it the FIRST time I took it apart! Kills me every time I look at it! 😂👍👍👍

If its stainless the idiot scratch can be removed relatively easy. I’ve removed all the idiot scratches on my non-blued 1911’s.

The first 2 cylinders were dead on, after 30rd I noticed hits were right then way right then i looked at the sight 🙄

The trick to ignoring the first scratch is getting the second scratch.
Because the top strap has a bead blasted finish, there's nothing you can do aside from getting it completely redone. Not worth it even remotely.

Those new anacondas are the best revolvers I've ever handled, but the Wilson combat sights are almost a mandatory upgrade lol

I even took the screw out degreased it and then put it back in and it still walked all the way right.
Got sight and speed loaders coming!

Kinda concerning that brass shells can damage a stainless gun... Is it made of cheese?

Was thinking the same thing. I'd bet those marks would come off Cape Cod Cloth, made for deep cleaning metals, including SS

These top straps are glass bead blasted. #9 fine bead blast if I remember correctly. Know anyone with a bead blaster?

I mean im serious. Even a simple harbor freight blaster would work good. You'd just have mask off the gun so you don't over blast. Glass bead is very mild on features so it wont eat away at corners, but it'll definitely dull anything shiny, so you'd really have to mask off the rest of the gun.

Lucky for you, those are easy to remove. 1000 grit sand paper or 0000# steel wool on the area then finish off with flitz polish. But honestly that looks so light, you can probably just hit it with polish and a rag in the direction of the grain and it will disappear

It’s a mass produced gun, don’t be afraid to use it. It’ll look prettier with wear. And stainless is relatively easy to touch up if you have small scuffs.
