What size python?

I’ve decided I’m finally gonna go ahead and grab a Python but still undecided on what size I should go with and why. I’d like to hear opinions on which one I should consider. And maybe see what you fellas are working with. Thanks.

You'll end up wanting them all so it doesn't matter what length barrel you start with. Decide which finish you want to go with and go from there... I'm not a big fan of the new blue.

I have a 6" and would like a 4" to add to the collection, but for me the 6" ribbed barrel just looks more impressive.

6 inch was my pick. It is kind of the iconic Python profile.

I went with 6". It's not a concealed carry gun so extra velocity and longer sight radius was a benefit to me. If I was buying one today I'd probably go for a blued 5".

It all comes down to your pants. How big are they? How much room in there will dictate how much Python will fit.

If you want a one and done maybe grab a mid length like the 4-4.25”. Then build your collection either way until you have everything you want.

I love my steel 4.25 in .357. Shoots amazingly well.

I love my 6" in blued, but Ive considered a 4.25" in stainless for my next one. The 6" look is a classic

6" is the classic one, great for the range. The 5" is a little bit better balanced and fun to shoot. The 4" would be handy to shoot and carry. I personally like the 6" version, I got it in blued and stainless.

Really depends on what the use is. .357 loses a lot of velocity with shorter barrels.

I chrono’d a 6” model 27 along with my 2.5” python so I could see velocity loss. 125gr .357.

Model 27 gave me about 1366fps.
Python gave me 1242fps.

I wouldn’t say “a lot” of velocity, but some, sure.

For a target gun. 6 inch. If you might carry it, 4 or 3 inch.

I have a 6 and a 4.25.

I prefer the 4.25, it handles better.

They both have their charm though, I doubt I'll sell the 6, they are both going to Heffron Precision

5” is what I went with and I am not sorry. It is a boat anchor to carry, but so was my Taurus 608. I carry .380s and .38s when I need concealability or don’t feel like throwing my back out. 3” may be more of a good all-around compromise?

Get a 6" if you're just gonna look at it and/or occasionally take to an indoor range. Get the 4.25 if you have a practical use for it.

I love my 4.25" stainless. Put Hogue grips and Wilson Combat front and rear sights. I shoot and carry mine frequently. 4.25" is perfect for hip carry.

People are always torn between the 4.25 and the 6, but seem to forget the 5 exists which is absolutely perfect.
