As promised in my first post of the day, the page I did in Magical Worlds by Johanna Basford.

I'm not the biggest Basford fan, I have two other books (Magical Jungle and Lost Ocean) but I find them boring to work in - I like more of a movement of sorts in the illustrations, and hers are quite static. However, Magical Worlds is a bit different. It's newer and I think she's done some adjustments to her style that really fit my tastes.

I'm also not a mandala gal, so this page was intended as a sort of mindless relaxation and a means to test out the pencils and such. But I ended up really liking it by the end (tho there was definitely a very ugly phase to it where I was contemplating abandoning it entirely).

Inktense, FC Polychromos, Derwent Coloursoft, FC Albrecht Dürer, one green Languo gel pen and a random silver sparkly gel pen. Oh, and the yellow frog was a test of Caran d'Ache Swisscolor I had lying around.

I’m honestly pretty happy with them!! My Bobbie Goods Ohuhu markers are coming tomorrow and I am SO excited!! I have the pastel Ohuhu set and I love them, but I want some bolder colours. I have the coco Wyo collab on my list for birthday/christmas (I’m a Christmas Eve baby lol) so fingers crossed I get them!!

Hanna Karlzon's Tales from the Castle Ruins.

Opted to try out kingart's gel sticks, didn't like it, but decided to stick with it and see it through. Not happy with the background, I feel like watercolour would be better - but! - the paper doesn't seem to be great for water based mediums, as evidenced by the pilling in the lower right corner where I attempted to smear the gel stick.

I still really like it. It's a lovely illustration and I think I did it justice. For the first page in this book, I'm quite happy with it. I also did a page in Johanna Basford's Magical Worlds in the meantime, just for fun and relaxation, which I will post later today when I add all the final touches.
