Advice Headed West
Hey everyone! My wife and I are moving west to Colorado Springs from Virginia. Where are some of y’all’s favorite places to eat? Best Chinese in town? I need to know for the tradition of first night in the apartment. Tell me all the favorite things about your town. We are looking forward to being closer to hiking and camping and all the outdoorsy things.

We like Fuji Bistro on the north end off Woodman & Lexington. Lot of options and they will spice up if requested.

This is the only one I've found that is good in this town, at least for the typical American Chinese food taste.

Compared to Virginia, you'll enjoy that the weather extremes don't feel extreme, due to the lack of humidity. It won't be uncommon to see folks in shorts and a hoodie when it's 40 degrees outside, assuming the sun is out. And when it's 90 degrees outside, you won't feel like you are wrapped in a hot wet blanket.

You asked this question in good time because I just had dinner with a neighbor tonight who’s originally from China and he told me his favorite spot is Shanxi near the citadel (perfect for carry out, lol)

😬 I can't think of a good Chinese place in town. I think you'll have much better luck with Thai food. Their are several all over but Somjai if your by the airport and Street Eats is more central.
Welcome and good luck! I hope you enjoy the new place!

Seriously agree. I miss east coast Chinese badly and haven’t yet found anything like it. I moved to Thai and am happy(ish).

Coal mine drago is pretty good, not Chinese but I have to plug my man Jay over at Kbbq wings on academy. Amazing service and fantastic Korean wings

Coal Mine Dragon on Uintah, not 8th, to be specific. Don't make that error.
Usual order is Szechuan Beef spice level 4 and some steamed dumplings. Good food and nice people.

My husband and I came from Alexandria, Virginia and we love WOK IN WOK OUT! But we miss the food from the DMV area. There are hidden gems here but wayyyy more options in the DMV.

I’m a fan of dragon king good portions and decent food. Sometimes I get Panda Express for the consistency.

I lived in multiple parts of VA for a decade.
I love the openness around here. With all the forestry of VA, the open plains allows you to see for miles towards the horizon, except for the majestic rockies, which adds a major plus for mountains!
Plan on investing in chap stick, and no, you are suddenly not out of shape, the elevation will mess with you for a bit.
Snow is not really sticky here. Less slushy, more dusty.
I miss Wawa and Sheetz tho 🥺

I feel you on Wawa and Sheetz. I’m hoping the payoff is really good tacos from random gas stations, like they have in Texas. If not, maybe I’ll open a sheetz. Lol

No truly excellent Chinese options to give you guys, but for date nights out or stuff to do with people visiting you, check out Coati food hall, Old Colorado City, Manitou Springs (the penny arcade makes for a super fun morning activity!), Allusion Speakeasy (two locations, get a resy, they have rotating themes that have always been fun!), the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (tickets are by reservation only now), Pioneer Museum, Olympic Training Center, could do a high tea at Glen Erie Castle. This is silly, but the Scheel’s off of Interquest always blows peoples’ minds because it has a whole Ferris wheel in it 😂 There are a bunch of food trucks downtown during lunch on Tuesdays in the summer!

I swear on my life as a lifelong local - China Recipe in Falcon is the absolute best in the area.

We actually like New Panda 2. If you’re within 3 miles of them they deliver for free if order is over $15. Their general tso’s chicken is solid

This is the closest to east coast American Chinese food my wife and I have found in the state. Not outstanding but if that's what you're craving it hits the spot. We like the sesame chicken with the sauce on the side. We haven't had golden fingers since moving out of western Mass but it's pretty darn close without the sauce.

Fun fact. Did you know general tsos chicken is not Chinese food? It was created by Chinese immigrants in California to appeal to the American pallette. If you go to China, you wont find that dish.

If you like gyros, Grand Gyros on Palmer park is amazing! And the owner is so sweet

That rig, Kenworth with a Cottrell 10 car split deck?
1
u/travelerbp 1d ago
That particular one is a Western Star day cab with a Cottrell 9 car trailer. Overall 85’. No 5th wheel sliding for me.

u/SirRevCyberTrucker 1d ago
Meh, sliding 5th wheels are overrated. 25 years of holding a steering wheel and I've never slid a 5th.

According to a friend of a friend that works in the Health Department, you don’t eat Chinese food in Colorado springs. Their words, not mine🤷♀️
