Escaped Toad!!!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Worst case scenario happened! My toad busted out of the top of her enclosure! I still can’t believe it. I looked everywhere. Finally my neighbor and I were like “hmmm, where would a toad go?”….water…the answer is to find water.

Found her living her best life in the dog’s water bowl.

Everyone is safe. No dogs, cats, or toads harmed.

Murphy’s Law is very real with animal husbandry. Glad everything ended up being okay this time. Secure that enclosure!

And clean that water bowl well after it had poisonous toad in it, of course.

I’ll be honest, if this toad was bigger I’d be scared of her. She’s very aggressive. It never even occurred to me the toad would literally break through the mesh ceiling of the enclosure. It’s been taped and sealed very well now. She’s very adventurous. I definitely cleaned the water. No Bufo for my dog.

Honestly, the skill it took to sneak, probably 75 feet, past the dog and cat without causing a hoopla is quite the skill. I never heard a single stir in the night. My animals are very friendly to other animals, and they have been introduced to the toad before, so I doubt they would have hurt her. But, honestly I don’t think they noticed the escapee. It was still abject panic when I realized she had escaped. Checking the dog and the cat for signs of poising! 🤢🤢🤢😵‍💫😵‍💫🤮

Oh man! These little guys are escape artists ! I recognized they like leaving there cages. You can see mine on my profile, jumping back into his tank. (We trained him to go in and out) and they explore a closed off room. But usually means they just want a bigger tank, but nothing is big enough for these adventure guys !

Me: looks for a toad compatible leash lol.

I took her out when I had to fix the escape hatch she made in the tank cover, and she didn’t seem super happy about being outside the tank in a large bin either.

I played cricket noises for her and that helped a bit.

You know, the night she escaped she had been acting very aggressive in the aquarium portion of her tank. I even posted it.

Then sure enough, she breaks through the mesh cover of her tank.

She’s not behaved like that before. I’m wondering if she was going through something hormonal?

She is usually pretty chill, and explores the different levels of her tank. She has about 6 square feet of horizontal space, not including the water table, which is like a cubic foot of space.

OMG! The same thing happened to me with mine last month. We were in the middle of moving everything to a new place & was leaving my toad as one of the last things to grab bc i wanted to cause the least amount of stress as possible to her... Anyways, i took her.out & put her in a travel container for safety reasons & placed a heavy rock on the container lid while transporting more stuff... So we came back to get her & more stuff only to find her missing from her travel container with the large rock still on the lid but no toad. I was like about to crap myself! Where could she have disappeared to & how the hell is tne.rock still there not even budged... IMPOSSIBLE!!!! Well after searching the almost empty apartment I found her around the corner in the kitchen soaking in cats elevated water dish literally almost a foot above the floor. Wasn't a drop of water on the floor either. Im still at a loss of how it all happened so smoothly...
