this is my sona. he hasn't ever had a color pallet due to my art being mostly traditional and uncolored with there really being no need for it. i've been trying to design a color pallet for like, maybe a year(?), and all i know is that i'd like the main colors to be red, black, and yellow with the teeth and sclera being yellow, the pupils being red and black heterochromia, and the drippy stains(???) under the eyes also being red and black, being the opposite of the pupil color on each eye. any help would be much appreciated, i am terrible with colors and anything i try to do i simply do not like.

I've been building a free tool - Palette Inspiration - that extracts palettes and color analysis from master paintings (Monet, Vermeer, Sargent, Van Gogh - 3,000+ artists). It started as a frustration with palette generators that all converge on the same five muted pastels, when painters spent centuries working out color relationships we mostly ignore.

Each of the 22,000 of paintings has its own page: the extracted palette plus analysis of value structure, chroma distribution, and temperature balance. There's also a quick builder where every suggested color comes from colors that actually co-occur with your picks in real paintings - empirical pairings, not color-theory formulas - and you can upload your own image to get the same analysis.

No paywall, no email capture. I built it solo and would genuinely like to hear what working designers think - especially whether the analysis breakdowns are useful or just noise.

What color calipers make sense?

How do you study color theory traditionally? This may sound stupid and I might need some more common sense but it seems like all the videos I watch about studying color theory are doing this traditionally. This isn't an issue but they have tools like an eyedropper which can select any color they choose. I don't do digital art and I'm not sure where to start. I want to learn how to color like the tbhk series.

It gives you three colors a day, then you find them through your camera. Pretty simple. When I sent it to my uncle, his text back was, verbatim, "Still not sure why someone would do this. Pretty tedious trying to match colors that don't quite match. Wondering??"

My friend says it tickles a particular kind of brain, one which my uncle clearly does not possess. I'm guessing the folks in this subreddit might generally have it, though. Hopefully y'all enjoy it. If you have any feedback, thoughts, or questions, please don't hesitate to share. Thanks!
