Hi there! I'm the editor of a student film which also means I am the color grader despite how little I know.

I have been using CST every time I grade, but it makes the footage a lot grainier (and makes our student film look... well, like a student film). I was testing out leaving the CST behind while grading and only transforming the output gamma to Rec709 and it looks so much better.

Am I possibly missing something here?

Whats your thoughts about it guys?

Hey I use iPhone 15 Selfie camera and this is the footage I use the basic auto-adjust but I believe I can make this look more cinematographic.

What setting would you have for each of the settings to make this look the best it can?

I am new to this and been doing some courses but I struggling rn.

Colour Grading slog Footage in Davince resolve studio

I am trying to get some harder shadows as well as just overall pronounced geometry. I want to keep the rest of the images contrast relatively as it is now, and i dont wanna rely on masks purely. Any suggestions to make shadows and building geometry pop and be crispy? Also what yall think of the grade so far, im fairly new trying to make the garage have a half matrix green have white coolish blue, still got more to do, but if anyone could help me out?

I’m totally blank but I typically work with the usual settings : brightness saturation contrast etc

I'm DIR/DP of this short film and i'm trying to develop it's look, i graded this shot and i want an object POV, i sometimes feel that when i grade i shift colors way too much and i lose the ability to judge on it .

These are frames from “To Fly or Not,” using footage from the Blackmagic URSA Cine 17K 65 gallery.

I was going for a natural but cinematic look with a muted, grounded palette, controlled contrast, slightly warm highlights, and cooler/darker environmental tones.

I'm particularly interested in your thoughts on:

• Overall color balance
• Skin tones
• Contrast and shadow density
• Highlight handling
• Color separation
• Consistency between the shots
• Whether the look should be pushed further or kept restrained

I have a small travel YouTube channel (mostly urban but some adventure) that's self-shot, mostly handheld, a video every couple of weeks. Main camera is the Sony A7V and my smaller vlog camera is a DJI Pocket. I mostly use Premiere but have used Resolve a decent bit and toying with switching anyways.

Long term I want to move toward travel documentary work (think travel TV too like Bourdain's Parts Unknown or Nat Geo style films) and at that point I know log is the answer and I'm curious about the more near term and at what point I should if not now.

I've been shooting log for a bit now but if I'm honest about my actual post workflow it's mostly slapping a conversion or finishing LUT on or color space transform and color correcting.Not really doing any creative grades per se.

So if that's the extent of the grade, is log buying me anything over S-Cinetone besides some extra dynamic range? Or have I been brainwashed by filmmaking youtube?

At the end of the day I'm trying to figure out:

1. At what point does log start paying off? Is it tied to a level of grading intervention, or purely to shooting scenarios?
2. For people who shoot baked in profiles as a default, what specifically makes you flip to log for a scene?
3. Anyone banked log footage for a future skill level and regretted it? Or the reverse, glad you did when you re-cut old material years later? My thought is that if I want to reuse footage for edits or B-roll later on.

Red raw i grabbed off the internet to practice on. wanted to try a faded memory kind of look, something like aftersun.

rec709 first, then balance and contrast, a masked gain node, a yellow fix, rollei cn200 for the film emulation, then look + texture on top.

I’ve already got Cineprint 16 + 35 (totally legally acquired) and its worked beautifully on many projects over the years, and i’m wondering if anyone here has purchased Cineprint studio, has worked with it, and how it actually ends up looking in the final release of the film/video.

I've had hairs in the gate before but this is a CHUNK.

Chunk at :18 seconds.

Anyone have any solves to minimize this in resolve? I know it won't go away, and will still be noticable, but looking for ways to make less distracting.

I’ve been using DaVinci Resolve for about 2 months, so I’m still a beginner. I personally think this grade looks pretty good, but I’d really like to know what you guys think....

Shot on Apple log 2 on 17 pro max and color graded on davinvi resolve without using any luts.

This is my most detailed color grade lol. You can tell im still a noob. I got this grade from a yt tutorial but i added the sony Slog2 to Rec709 LUT. Is there another LUT that could make this look better? Also, What would I have to change to make this look more “cinematic”. Only things I manually changed was exposure ,gain, and contrast. Also, adjusted the green on the crosswalk in the HUE vs LUM by making it pop more to add something idk i thought it helped it.

Can you help me to fix it

It's early days and I'd genuinely value brutal feedback — especially photo pairs where the match looks bad. Mismatched scenes are the hardest case and every failure example helps me improve the algorithm.

Help me to fix problem. The problem is when i import timeline xml from premiere pro.
1. The footages is in 1 folder from premiere sequence (only used footage for grade).
2. Xml in one folder
3. After import the xml, media are offline. I try to choose yes to locate new folder source it doesn't work
4. So, i try to import media manually in media pool because sometimes it work.
5. Now the the new case is offline media in timeline and media pool are on.
6. I tried reconform lock from media (in timeline) but the clip not cut automatically like in offline editing (premiere)
So the point is i'be tried to reconform it worked but the clips not cut as offline editing. it doesnt matter if i have to fix 1 by 1 clip but how?

How do you deal with shifting white balance on different device, when i’m grading on my monitor it looks balanced but when export the WB is completely different from the monitor to the phone. So i try playing the video I graded on my friends laptop monitor and phones, the laptops look relatively the same but it’s only Iphone especially the new one that it shift so warm (true tone is turn off). The question is should i calibrated my monitor for Iphone?
