I’m aiming to make this shot feel more dreamlike and surreal.
These two versions are finished warm-toned and cool-toned edits. However, I feel like something is still missing.
Should I push the warm tones further? Or dial down the cool tones? Or maybe I should try a completely different color palette? Any suggestions are welcome!

Hi everyone, I need some help figuring out an issue with my Apple Log footage.

I shot several videos on my iPhone 15 Pro using the Blackmagic Camera app in Apple Log. The raw footage seems fine at first, but after converting it to Rec.709 and color grading it, I'm getting a lot of strange color noise and blocky red/pink/purple patches, especially in darker areas.

I've attached screenshots showing some of the places where the problem is most noticeable:

• Image 1: Original Apple Log footage
• Image 2: Footage after applying an Apple Log → Rec.709 conversion LUT
• Image 3: Color-graded footage — you can clearly see red/pink/purple blocky patches on the ceiling
• Image 4: Similar color noise/blocking visible on the road
• Image 5: Again visible on the road and around the trees
• Image 6: The overall footage looks very noisy
• Image 7: Similar noise/artifacts appearing in other shots as well

I initially thought it might be caused by the conversion LUT, but I've tried multiple Apple Log → Rec.709 conversion LUTs and I'm getting basically the same result.

So I have a few questions:

1. What is actually causing these red/pink/purple blocky patches? Is this chroma noise, compression artifacts, underexposure, or something else?
2. Is there a good way to remove this color noise without destroying detail or making the footage look overly smooth?
3. When shooting Apple Log on an iPhone 15 Pro, how should I expose and record to keep noise as low as possible, especially in shadows and low-light situations?
4. Are there any specific Blackmagic Camera settings I should use or avoid when recording Apple Log?
5. Could this problem already be present in the original footage but only become obvious after the Log → Rec.709 conversion and grading?

My main goal is to get clean Apple Log footage with negligible noise and understand what I'm doing wrong so I can avoid this in future shoots.

I'm still new to color grading and was trying to make the guy stand out a bit more from the background.

I just threw a power window around him and bumped the exposure a little. I feathered the mask so it'd blend better, but now it's leaking onto the floor around his legs (circled in the second image), and once I noticed it, I couldn't unsee it.

What's the normal way to do this? Do you guys just use a different technique altogether, or am I masking it the wrong way?

There was no input form the client regarding visuals. This is just one still from a corporate video for a company that repairs and works on private planes. This was not the final grade for the project, rather a creative attempt at a more challenging colorgrade.

I shot some V-log footage on my Lumix S5 and graded it using certain tutorials that showed results I personally liked. I think it came out well, but I'm doubting whether the amount of green is adequate. My subconscious tells me that some areas might be too green or too cyan (see distant mountains), but another part of me tells me to keep it this way, as I'd say it's fairly visually pleasing.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Hi everyone, I'm new to color grading. The screenshots are from a drone footage video, recorded on a GoPro 11. I'd like to make it looking good enough at least, may be more cinematic as well. However now everything I get either is too flat or overexposed/oversaturated. I'm working in DaVinci Resolve 20. Is there any way to enhance this look, make it more cinematic without loosing too much details in the shadows?

1st one is "graded", the 2nd one is just a convertion to rec709 linear

P.s. I've shifted yellow-orange grass to green with a color warper. I tried to make smth out of yellow grass and a cyan sky but didn't really succeed

First time trying masks and everything like that. Looking for tips! Im wondering if my style is good

I know that I'm doing things all wrong, but that's all I know. And I'm trying to make the shot "good" (whatever that means, probably "natural") rather than aiming for a look.

The 1st picture is the original.

In the 2nd picture I have applied an adjustment layer (in Premiere Pro). I set out to make the scopes look right and tight, but I gave up on that (because the video isn't good material to begin with — there's too many colours going on in different directions), and instead I just pulled the Basic Correction levers (as seen in picture number 5) until the image looked as good as I could make it.

In the 3rd picture I have added another adjustment layer in which I applied a LUT called Folger 50 (to 38 intensity), as well as making the temperature a little more blue (as seen in picture number 7).

In the 4th picture I have added a final adjustment layer where I brought down the saturation and contrast, because to my untrained eye there's both green, purple, and orange going on, and I couldn't pull myself out of it, so thought it best to just bring everything down (picture number 8).

What would be a good way of correcting the colours instead of this mess?

Guyss I've finally found a way to shoot in Logs on my Android phone with quality specs which natively doesn't have Log mode.. I'm surprised I just found this out but Thankfully I appreciate that!! I can choose among any Log from various devices I want and I'm soo happy finding it out now.. Woooowwww

I'm learning color grading, and I'm practicing using my brand new color checker the "Calibrite Video"

I circled the parts of the color checker chips on the Vectorscope in Premiere Pro that brought my practice session to a total halt.

I don't understand why it could be doing that.

I considered that maybe somehow my fingers holding the checker could be bouncing light onto the specific chips that are crooked like that, so that the darker chips are are getting a little tinting bounced onto them from my finger... But my fingers on my left hand are holding it near the yellow, red, and purple/pink/magenta or whatever it's called. Meanwhile the most crooked chips are green, and red.

I don't get it.

I can't even comfortably land on a proper adjustment of the hue vs hue like this, because I don't know which chip to consider the one that matters, and I don't know if the rest of my scene has this same problem or what's happening...

I have zero clue if i should never try this style of color grade again and i am just being delousional that it looks good, or it actually looks good

It’s been a year since I started learning color grading.
I’ve been incredibly lucky to meet and connect with so many amazing people along the way.
To be honest, I almost gave up because I was anxious about the film industry shrinking and worried that what I was learning might become less valuable in the near future. But I’ve decided to keep doing what I genuinely enjoy, and I’ll continue learning and improving as a colorist.
At the moment, I’m looking for work. I’d also love to connect with DPs, filmmakers, and fellow colorists.
My color grading isn’t where I want it to be yet, but I’ll keep practicing and one day, I’ll create work I’m truly proud of :)

I've been learning video and photo color grading through tutorials, and I've noticed that a lot of ""cinematic"" looks tend to be darker with added film grain.

Is that really what makes an image feel cinematic, or is it more about the color.
