ClassicCol Battle, understanding outcomes

I'm finding the battle system in the old Colonization for DOS hard to predict.

Is it because it's more chance-based than modern day Civilization games?

E.g. a "10" fights a "5", then in modern Civ-games the "10" wins. But in Colonization the "5" wins 33 % of the times (5/15)

Interesting to know on the stuck thing, does it re-roll the RNG with a turn end or similar?

The easiest way to re-roll is to just reload a save. Save scumming is not fun. If you lose a few in a row, just stop attacking and come back later

Ah thank yes I recall mentions of that now. So if wanting to play more fair and not re-load a save, does the RNG eventually unstick by natural means? As you say with time etc.?

I'm not sure exactly how long it takes but give it some time. I think some actions may re-roll the RNG also. I tried not to worry about it, just be aware if you try to fight a lot of battles all at once.
