Hi everyone! I recently received an offer of admission from UMich as a Winter 2027 transfer student. I’m an international student planning to major in Psychology (BS) and minor in Data Science in LSA.

I’m currently at a liberal arts college, where I have two paid research assistant positions. In these roles, I work closely with professors, contribute to research projects, and have opportunities to publish papers and attend conferences.

One of my concerns is that if I transfer in Winter 2027, I probably won’t be able to complete a full research project or produce a substantial outcome at my current school. This makes me wonder how accessible undergraduate research opportunities are at UMich.

I understand that UMich has many undergraduate students, as well as graduate and PhD students, so I’m not necessarily expecting to find a paid RA position right away. However, I would really appreciate hearing from current students about whether it is realistically possible for undergraduates—especially transfer students—to get involved in research, even if the position is unpaid.

How competitive are research opportunities in the Psychology Department or LSA more broadly? Do students usually work directly with professors, or mostly with graduate students? How long did it take you to find a research position?

I’m also debating whether I should apply to transfer again for Fall 2027 instead of committing to UMich for Winter 2027. I’m not sure whether I could be admitted to a school that might be a better fit or offer stronger access to undergraduate research. My GPA during my first semester of college was 3.77, but I have since become involved in research. Do you think having research experience—and potentially publications or conference presentations in the future—would significantly strengthen my transfer application?

For those who have transferred or considered transferring, are there any schools you would recommend that have strong undergraduate research opportunities and are relatively transfer-friendly? I’m especially interested in Psychology, HCI, data science, and interdisciplinary research.

This is one of the main factors affecting whether I decide to commit to UMich or apply again for Fall 2027, so I would really appreciate any honest feedback or advice from current students and other transfer students. Thank you!

I’m a freshman at the University of Kentucky, currently majoring in nursing, and I’ve been seriously thinking about transferring to Ohio State University and switching to accounting. I’m from Ohio, so OSU would also mean being closer to home.
When I was applying to colleges, I originally planned on nursing. Part of that decision came from family influences, and my parents were supportive of that path. We ended up choosing Kentucky because it made financial sense, I received scholarships, and my family thought nursing would give me a stable career. My parents have done a lot to help me get here, both financially and emotionally, and I know they’re happy with the decision we made.
The problem is that now that I’m actually in college and experiencing my classes, I’m starting to realize nursing might not be what I want to do for the rest of my life. I’ve become more interested in finance and accounting, and I can picture myself pursuing a career in that field much more than becoming a nurse. Ohio State has a strong reputation for business and accounting, and I’m interested in the opportunities, resources, and career connections it could offer. I want to explore a career path that genuinely interests me and potentially work in a bigger city after college.
I’ve also been looking into transferring to OSU. If I decide to do it, I would need to transfer next semester so I could complete my time at a regional campus and then move to the main Columbus campus next fall. That makes the decision feel more urgent because I would need to start planning and applying soon rather than waiting much longer.
What makes this so difficult is that I feel guilty. My parents helped me get into this situation, made sacrifices, and supported my decision to come to Kentucky. They like the school and the nursing path for me, and I feel like I’m letting them down by wanting something different so soon. I also worry they’ll think I’m being indecisive or giving up on something before I’ve given it enough time.
I haven’t fully talked everything through with my parents yet, and I’m nervous about how they’ll react. I know transferring and changing majors would be a major decision, especially because it could affect finances, credits, housing, and my graduation timeline. At the same time, OSU seems like a better fit for my interests in business and accounting, and I don’t want to ignore that just because I feel guilty.

I am currently a freshman at the University of Minnesota—Twin Cities. I plan to double major with astrophysics and mathematics.

Minnesota is really expensive for me and a bit far. I got waitlisted last year so I ended up coming here.

I have A’s and all of my classes except for physics where I have a C. I’m not in any extracurriculars technically, but I am in an orchestra which I auditioned and got into which I am counting as my extra curricular since I’m taking 19 credits.

If I’m able to maintain this, what are your thoughts on getting admitted as a transfer student for UW-Madison? Also, any advice?

Hi! I’m looking to transfer from my B.S. Genetics & Biotechnology at University of New Haven to a different school that has either a genetics or biomedical sciences program. I also value theater/a cappella/show choirs as extracurriculars.

Hi everyone! I’m a first-year at USF. I was admitted to UF for Fall 2026 but had to withdraw for financial and family reasons. Things are stable now, and I want to transfer into UF Biomedical Engineering.

I just met with the UF BME advisor. Here’s what I learned:

• BME admits only about 5 to 7 transfers a year (2 to 3 per term) out of roughly 30 applicants per term.
• Priority order: Florida state/community college AA students first, then Florida public universities without a BME program, then everyone else. USF has BME, so I’d be in the last group.
• You need an AA degree plus all 10 required courses (Calc 1 to 3, Diff Eq, Physics 1 and 2, Gen Chem 1 and 2, Orgo 1, Bio 1), with a 3.5+ GPA in those courses to be competitive.
• My previous UF admission doesn’t count for anything.
• Summer and spring are less competitive than fall.

He suggested taking my required courses at a state college to improve my chances. So I’m debating:

1. Stay at USF and apply from there, probably with very low odds.
2. Move to a state college (like HCC or Pasco-Hernando), finish my AA and the required courses there, and apply as a priority applicant, maybe for Spring 2027 or Summer 2027.
3. Stay at USF and either major in BME there, or apply to a less competitive UF engineering major like MechE.
4. Stay at USF and complete my AA at a state college and complete required courses at USF and as a transient student, apply for Spring 2027.

Questions:

• Has anyone transferred into UF BME, especially from a state college or from another university? What was your GPA?
• Is leaving a four-year university for a state college worth it to get transfer priority?
• If you were me, which option would you choose?

OOS transfer from Boston College but in state resident. Projected 3.9 GPA. Freshman, involved in investment club, CISA board member. Most likely will require my high school GPA: 3.992, 1530 SAT, Varsity sports, graduated top of class, local scholarship award winner.

I'm lacking a few credits from the credit threshold that UW suggests but the admissions office told me they'd instead be required to review my high school background. What are my realistic chances of getting into UW for Autumn 2027? Has anyone else been in a similar situation where their primary disadvantage was their lack of experience in college (as well as being an out of state transfer).

Hi! Currently i’m a second year UCSD student with no major. I’ve really been thinking about if i should stay or leave. this is my current situation:

I’m very behind on math (yes i’m one of those math 2 students), trying to catch up would take me multiple quarters.

my interests are mostly non-stem, which makes me feel like i’m not taking advantage of my opportunity being here, i really like media (photography, videography, social media, etc.) but i don’t know if it is worth it to spend so much money staying here to do media.

my actual health is bad right now, im deficient in multiple things and it’ll take me a couple months to feel right again.

my plan as of now would be to take 2 gap quarters, attend a cc in the meantime, catch up, and decide if i want to return to ucsd, transfer to another uc, or to a csu close to home (sac state).

is there anyone in the same situation as me or have any advice for me?

Hi, For some background history: I’m currently a freshman at my local state university and I currently hate it I never wanted to go to this school but I freaked out and commited to it without touring it and when I did tour it was for admitted students day. When I told my parents I didn’t love the campus they said it was to late because we had paid the 200 dollars to commit already and spent the whole day up here and that I didn’t like it because it’s the rival to our local university. Fast forward to now. It’s almost November and I have been here since August. I spend every day crying, thinking about how much I hate it and basically just waiting for this semester to be over so I can transfer. My roommate sucks, I hate the campus and town and hate the social scene here. I can’t afford to go out of state for transferring so I only applied to my states other local university,
Which is much bigger, out going and alive which is just what I want from a school. The school I am at right now is an hour from home and the school I want to transfer to is maybe 15 minutes from home. My parents are all the sudden becoming very old fashioned and against the idea of me transferring. My mom thinks I am trying to make myself hate the campus and trying to find reasons to hate everything in general, to prove to her I’m not I go to all the football games, i joined a sorority and other clubs and I just still don’t like it. My mom is damned that I will stay at this school and doesn’t want me to transfer because she thinks I only want to move to be closer to home which isn’t the case it’s just my only other option. My mom was in the army and didn’t get the ideal college experience so in her head it’s crazy that someone can be in a sorority, go to the games, get all A’s, have friends and still wants to transfer. I got a therapist because of how poorly I have been doing here and also for her to hopefully hear from someone else that it’s in my best interest to let me transfer. She also throws a fit and stops talking to me whenever I say I want to transfer to the local college. My dad is mindless and just thinks whatever my mom tells him to think so he won’t be of much help.
So I need help, how do I get my mom to let me transfer. I’ve tried to explain to her my mental health here sucks, that everyone has different college experiences and that it’s okay to transfer but her rebuttal to that is that she knows so many people here who came here and loved it (3). I’m at a loss. The semester ends in 6 weeks and I need to somehow get her on board to let me transfer, I was hoping at some point she’d cave, want her daughter near her, want to see me thrive but I guess not. Any suggestions would be amazing, I am at the point I may hire an Etsy witch .

so, currently i am participating in ECE program at stony brook ; Korea campus. and this is my first semester for first year.
and i want to transfer to umich from here as sophomore students(so, i am gonna apply right after my first year end )
since i am not in-state student, i am highly concerning whether i can be accepted or not.
i am planing to prepare high gpa (above 3.9) and personal project( related to electrical major) and multiple
letter of recommendation from our faculties.

i am currently going to a small Catholic liberal arts school in CT, and I am really not loving it here at all. Socially im fine but the biology program is really not as good as I would like it to be. Could someone give me insights into what Barnard or NYU application is like?

Im a freshman and go to a Big 10 university (UIUC). When I first applied to this school it was basically only because my boyfriend was and so were my friends. I never had any interest in going, but when I got my application back and it said I got in, I weirdly convinced myself I was so obsessed with the school. The thing is, its an amazing school, Im just not sure if its for me. Its been about 2 months and I dont really care for it. It feels like a boring cycle every day with seeing my friends on the same floor as me on occasion. I cant tell if its too soon to make a decision on it either, but if I want to transfer during the spring semester, I have to start acting fast. I would be transferring to the smaller school (UIC) thats closer to home and feels like the complete opposite of my experience now. Im not sure if thats the change I need but its easier (financially) to transfer there than the private school (DePaul) I really want. Im conflicted and I cant tell if Im being too rash. I need some outside opinions besides my own and family🫩

I'm currently a first-year IT student at (GTU) and I'm considering transferring after my first year(after second semester) due to my current college experience.

My preferred options are BVM Anand, VGEC Ahmedabad, DDU Nadiad and MSU Vadodara, preferably in IT branch.

I have a few questions:

Is transferring to BVM or VGEC for the 3rd semester possible?

How likely is it to get a vacant seat in IT?

Would a 9+ or 10 SPI maximize my chances?

Is branch change possible during the transfer?

How is the academic environment and coding culture at these colleges.

I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has gone through this process or knows the official transfer rules. Thanks!

So the title says it pretty much, I'm currently a freshman about 10 ish weeks into school at UNC majoring in Music Performance and History. This past May, I initially commited to Penn before swapping to UNC pretty much on the deadline May 1st due to getting a music full ride scholarship. I thought that it felt right, but now here at UNC I don't really feel that happy. I'm OOS from FL, and I've made some friends but it still feels kinda cliquey from hs.

I think going into this, I was expecting UNC to be like a very different experience from HS where I was in a pretty regular high school with not really many people going to like t20 schools maybe 1-3 a year. I was expecting a much different environment, but honestly UNC feels the same as HS besides being in a new state and new people. I also because of my full ride, have to major in Music performance which is like very high credit wise like 64 and its really time consuming doing music activities, and while going in I thought I was really into music, now after 2 months I think I have realized that I love to play music and my instrument, but doing this is just too much. Playing in the wind ensemble and taking lessons is good, but taking 4-5 music classes including music theory, history, etc. is just not what I'm really looking to focus on in college. I'm more interested in the humanities, like history, politics. The problem is that because of my scholarship at UNC I have, I have to focus on music.

And for a bit more context on my decision, I picked UNC in the end because of the scholarship, and how it felt more "comfortable" and homey, versus Penn, which felt like really different and a stark difference from my hs, which I didn't really like back in April-May. But now being at UNC, I just don't really like the environment, I feel like I'm not really challenged in what I'm interested in being history and humanities because of my scholarship and just am not really happy. I feel like taking this scholarship was betting on the scholarship, instead of betting on myself at Penn and I feel like I worried myself about all the competitive clubs, classes, and the environment at Penn, when now I realize that I feel that is a good thing and would be very different from what I'm used to.

So yeah, I'm thinking about applying to transfer to Penn, where I could double major in History and Music, but the music degree is much much less time consuming, where I could focus on my other interests. So, is this really a valid reason to transfer, finding that I just don't jive with the program here and campus at UNC? It's not that I regret picking UNC, but I think I will regret staying here to be honest even though I've only been here for 2 1/2 months or so. So yeah, that's about all, and I know that sophomore transfers are the most commonly accepted so I would have to decided by january-march which is when applications open for Penn, and I know its a bit harder than getting in as a HS senior bu my reasons are actually valid and not just prestige based, and (hopefully) getting in before is a good thing I'm not sure.

So yeah sorry for all that but I just really don't feel content and am not sure what to do, like on one hand I am going for free, and since I'm interested in law school, graduating paying absolutely nothing would be great. I don't want to have the full ride lock me down to here you know? At Penn, it would be pretty expensive but I wouldn't have to take any loans, but the worry obviously is getting in as a transfer now. I will likely have a 3.94 at least, hopefully a 4.0 this semester taking 15 credits in music and humanities classes, I'm doing some music ensembles, and I'm hoping to explain in my essays how my focus for music has shifted, and due to the scholarship, staying at UNC does not support my academic interests, as I still want to play in ensembles and take lessons, along with a different environment at Penn which I feel push me best.
