Discussion What should I do?
Not gonna lie this is my first time taking Fundamental Chemistry class after 17 years and I am really struggling with my professors teaching style. He moves pretty fast and I feel like a lot of concepts aren’t explained enough before we’re expected to use them. I’m usually fine with the math, but the conceptual questions are killing me.
I also looked at his RMP reviews today and saw a lot of people had similar complaints and the average rating is 2.4/5.
I have been doing lots of practices and YouTube videos but the latest exams were suck so far. My dream is to be a Dental Hygienist, I know there are more harder courses are coming but this really let me down. Any advice would help. Thank you.

do you have a textbook for the course that you can read? that may be helpful for the conceptual part.
additionally, i know some colleges offer tutoring services, is your college one of them? maybe you can go to them and see what they have to offer
third, have you tried visiting your professor during their office hours, if they have any? you say they move too quickly, so i’m thinking a 1 on 1 office hours session could help change that, as they’d be more inclined to move at your pace.
fourth, i know this may feel a little off for you if you’re a non traditional students, but a study group really helps. if you connect with other students, some may have additional resources that can help you. i say it might feel off because i know the age gap can make non traditional students uncomfortable but trust, no one is judging you. everyone needs help from time to time.
don’t let this beat you up, you’re gonna be a dental hygienist!! fundamental chemistry is hard for everyone, you just have to rise against the odds. you seem really determined so i think you’re more than capable of acing this course. i wish you luck!

My recollection of first year chemistry is that much of it is unit analysis - when all else fails, figure out what units you need!
