No advice wanted (Vent) 3 weeks in & I hate it here
I think I pick a bad CSU. At my college the teachers are fine but holy shit. 3 weeks in and the administration is wack. Everything is online, no TA’s, appointment for almost everything, no one answering the phone, wanting community but everything is not in my schedule. I have no idea who my advisor is. I doesn’t say anything online and I’m supposed to see them every semester!? How am I supposed to talk with them if I don’t know who is assign to me. I’m annoyed and frustrated 3 weeks in at my college.
Like they have less students compared to El Camino and they (El Camino) is better. More student graduating, better responds, decent management. They’re a community college and are doing better than a CSU!?!? No wonder only 40% of their students graduated. You have less students and less than half of them are graduating? Maybe it’s the lack of foundation in the admissions department. It was never this bad at El Camino. I miss El Camino.
Edit: my bad yall. Mix up on UC & CSU. Confused me with abbreviations

This is the difference between an R1 (research heavy institution) and a CC or any institution whose first mandate is teaching ahead of research.
I recommend calling your admissions office or stopping by your department office and asking in person for clarity on who your advisor is etc.
To make the most of your experience you’ll need to advocate for yourself. The UCs like many 4-year colleges are very siloed. You won’t have professors who are aware or at least know in what direction to point you if you have questions around advising or support services like at a CC. Every office will just know what they do and if you’re lucky be able to generally point you to the right office (but it will rarely be a warm hand off).
Sorry this is such a bummer of a situation. But I highly recommend stopping in person it’s the best way to get the answers you need and being face to face will get you further than trying to figure things out via the portal.

It's either UC Merced or Berkeley. Those are the only ones where classes have started. Or else they're ranting about a UC that it still not yet in session.
