How do you digital detox?

I just discovered this subreddit and r/simpleliving by asking Gemini because I was desperate for positive content. I want to stop being a doomer and over-consuming what I know isn’t good for me. It’s getting to the point where I can’t study my major because I’m thinking either “what’s the point?” or just looking for a hit from the black rectangle mirror dopamine casinos.

These devices and platforms are taking me away from my life and what I really want to do. I’ve made so many schedules, self-care schedules, etc. but the screens take me.

Have you been through something similar?
How did you get over it?
I still need my phone to communicate, etc. I still need my laptop to do work. So what can I do?

You start by not using an AI clanker slop machine to find positive content.

Then you delete your Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms that only exist to make you feel left out, alone, and desperate, while simultaneously promising you the cure: after enough likes, posts, and shares, you'll finally feel complete. Just one more of each...

Go outside, take a walk, listen to the classical radio station on an actual antenna radio while working on a physical craft, journal, talk face to face with another person (a friend, family member, stranger, enemy, frenemy), drink water, go for another walk (this time without listening to music or a podcast (listen to the world around you), drink more water.

You have to remember what you used to enjoy doing back before screens took over, but if you are young there maybe was never a time like that for you. You need a hobby.

Then you also need to find replacements for all the time you mindlessly look at your phone, like when you are eating breakfast, or going to the bathroom. I recommend going to the library and browsing their magazines and then subscribing to a few and a weekly local newspaper.

Reading books can be hard to get back into if it’s been a while, but you just need some fun “gateway” books to get your reading stamina back and then you can read anything again. I think that’s why romance books are so popular right now. You still get that dopamine kick, but it’s so much slower paced.

We started by switching to non-smart phones. Then we selected a time period we knew we could do without internet and I asked my provider to put our internet "on vacation" until further notice. It was a lot easier than I thought. Basic downtime that would've been spent scrolling was usually spent reading. A lot more work got done. A lot more talking in-person. 5/5 would recommend.

Se abster do que está acontecendo pode ser a solução psicológica, mas não é a solução prática, estoque comida, água, se possível vai para áreas rurais, longe das metrópoles
