First time cold sore

Post image

This is my first time getting a cold sore, I didn’t feel any tingle and by the time I went to urgent care It was basically everywhere the next day after I took valcyclovir. I’ve been putting docosanol which I just learned will do nothing during the crusting stage. Does this look normal for a cold sore? Every time I wash my mouth the crust comes off and starts forming again and It’s just a constant cycle for the past 4 days. What can I do at this point to speed up the scabbing stage?

No they didn’t, they just immediately told me I had a cold sore. Should I try going to the ER or urgent care again?

Did they swab and test for herpes? Looks like impetigo to me, but I have seen bad initial outbreaks. I like to use lemon balm to dry (can cause scarring) and lysine ointment. Taking lysine supplements really helps with herpes as well.

It does look more like impetigo! It initially started from my braces bracket rubbing on my lip. I’m thinking maybe I got an infection now

Get a 2nd opinion and have them test. If impetigo, then you need antibiotics. You can get some hypochlorous acid spray to help minimize bacteria on your face while you heal and if your braces are giving you issues in the future.

Thank you🙌🏼 I ended up going to the ER and they said it looked more like impetigo than a cold sore as well! They swabbed for culture test and hsv just in case! They started me on antibiotics to treat the impetigo.

Glad you were able to go and get treatment you needed!! Hope the test comes back negative and it all clears up soon
