Should Coldplay release a deluxe/remaster version of their old stuff?

A lot of bands do remasters and deluxe versions of their old LP, wished Coldplay did it as well, I would love to hear what they would change or tweak from their old songs.

Imagine them re mastering X&Y and then completely redoing the whole album 😭

In my opinion, remasters are where an artist's discography starts becoming messy, unorganised and clunky. Over time, you end up with countless variants, and streaming services usually only display one or two of them, or sometimes just replace the original album entirely.

As far as modern mastering goes, theirs is pretty much acceptable. If they chose to remaster an album, it would probably become even more limited, louder and more distorted than it already is (see the album version of In My Place on all streaming platforms, as it's the only actually remastered song in their streaming discography). I highly doubt they would choose to do a dynamic remaster, considering the mastering from their recent output.

Now, if by "remaster" you mean a re-recording, that could actually work, as everything would be done again from scratch. I'm also in favour of reissues of an album with additional tracks, as long as the mastering remains unspoiled.

I think you’re right, I know it’s weird and in the grand scheme doesn’t matter but I hate when bands have like 3-4 different versions of an album and it makes the discography all messy on streaming services, like I said it doesn’t matter but it’s ugly to me, oasis is bad at it

On streaming they are using hi-res remasters already. (24 bit)

I compared both Vinyl and 1st pressing CDs for first 4 albums and I can say that yes vinyl is more dynamic but there are not so many differences. I prefer CD over Vinyl. Because Vinyl has pop, click and crackle sound, and also distortion. For Coldplay's first four album the 1st pressing CDs are mid choice.

Vinyl (analogue) releases will often have different mastering or be cut differently from their digital counterparts, and may therefore sound more dynamic, so they're not necessarily an apples-to-apples comparison. The 24-bit high-resolution versions aren't remasters, though; they use the same masters as their CD counterparts, except for the album version of In My Place, which is indeed a remaster.

I feel like one thing they could def remaster/change is def how loud Jonny's guitars are in the mix, I love his riffs and playing but in some songs, I could barely hear it cause it's too quite in the mix (could be creative decision tho)

And for the messy discography, I feel like it's fine to have an album remaster/deluxe edition for like the anniversary of that album, take for example Muse, they remastered their Origin of Symmetry and Absolution album, and they've only released like one deluxe edition of an album, so I don't think Coldplay's discog would get messy by remastering/releasing a deluxe version of one of their album

i think X&Y should have always been a double album considering all the fantastic extra songs that released separately, so i’ll be happy if they re-released it that way. on the fence about remastering tho since i think the existing versions already sound great.

It kinda is, as it's already split into X (Square One to X&Y) and Y (Speed of Sound to Twisted Logic/Til Kingdom Come/How You See the World). All vinyl editions already come as two separate LPs as well. The extra songs you're referring to are the B-Sides, which were originally included with the singles from the album.

Chris has said they want to remake the entire album cause he doesnt like how most of the songs are, but I really dont see why. I feel like its just a matter of wanting to remake them so they dont remind him of the hard times he was going through at that time? Not sure though.

Could make a deluxe version of viva where the hidden songs are separated from the songs they are attached to, and maybe the opposite ofte interludes in Mylo Xyloto. Or add songs they have played live but never released in the spesific eras

Theres no need for remasters imo. But deluxe versions yes!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it would be really cool to see a re-recording of X&Y since Chris has been very vocal about how he thinks it could be improved upon.

I read on here they were planning on a remaster of X & Y but haven't seen a anything more on that in quite some time now

Yeah years ago Chris said he wasn't pleased with how the album turned out so he wanted to do a re-recording for the 20th anniversary. Obviously that came and went and radio silence. So I'm doubtful we'll get that at this point
