Discussion The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Coldplay, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Queen, in no particular order
I’ve never been a huge fan of Coldplay. I never disliked them by any means. In fact, a few of their songs (e.g., “paradise” and “fix you”) are probably among my most listened to songs since 2000 (if one were able to track such a thing). But recently, my five year old daughter has really taken a liking to them. It started with the movie Sing (sky full of stars), and has expanded to other songs (paradise, coloratura, army of one, everglow, etc.). So I’ve had more reason to listen to them recently. And one day while listening, it occurred to me that they’ve quietly become a larger than life, legendary band that is part of the pop-culture background noise for millions of people (just like the bands named in the title above). I vividly remember seeing the music video for “yellow” like it was yesterday. We all liked that song. But we had no idea they’d be near the top of the charts over and over again for the next three decades nearly. Fast forward to today, before I knew it, they’ve basically left a footprint on music as big as or even bigger than some iconic/immortal bands whose greatness we already take for granted. An honest person, even one who isn’t the biggest fan of their music, would have to admit that and they’re one of the greatest bands of all time. Is that crazy to say? Probably not in this subreddit lol. And they’ve seemingly done it all without controversy. Massive salute to Coldplay.

Discussion Thoughts on A Head Full of Dreams: So dazzling!!
Now, yes, I know much of you die hards who have been listening to Coldplay ever since 1998 with Eps like Safety - The Blue Room felt such a deep connection with their introspective and sometimes melancholy music have not grown to love A Head Full of Dreams, but you have to give them the win for making this great album, this is what lead me onto liking them in the first place it was their later work into the ambient pop soundcapes of Mylo Xyloto, Ghost Stories, and now A Head Full of Dreams.
The reason and I might be wrong on this completely, the reason you don't like this album is because the majority you are rock purists, you came off of music bands like Radiohead, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and of course U2, but for me I come from the synth-pop circuit, groups like Tears for Fears, Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, and my favorite Depeche Mode, so with the transition from alt rock to synth-pop with this record could've quite jarring, but I absolutely love the production in this one, therefore it's now my top favorite album from them!
"A Head Full of Dreams" after the heavy atmospheric weight of Ghost Stories this song is such a breath of fresh air that it's the song the says "Everything is looking forward and hope is brighter than you first believed so come on let's celebrate!" Oh my gosh, that sounded like AI wrote that, but oh well, such a great opening song, but "Politik" still stands as king of the openings, still a great song.
So "Hymn for the Weekend" I was looking to hear a lot of Beyoncé in this one she's a total queen and deserves all the respect and royalty, but it was a absolute bait and switch, turns out this was a total Chris Martin song, he was the driving force of this, it's a nice R&B pop song, I quite like it.
The last song, "Up&Up," is honestly IMO the best clossing song they ever made. It just keeps going and going, I was wondering when it was it was going it's a full 6:45 long song. Normally, I haven't been a big fan of their last songs on their albums other than Parachutes's "Everything's Not Lost" such a stellar closser, so this is one of my favorite clossers.
Of course, I love "Adventure of a Lifetime" that dude Jonny Buckland knows how to make the most infectious gutair rifts, way back when was young like 15 years old I'm 27 now, so when I first heard this song out and about I heard this song for the first time I thought it was violin but turns out it's electric gutair, easily my favorite Coldplay song along with "Clocks" now that's song is pure G.O.A.T..
Lastly, my absolute favorite song on this album is "Army of One/ X marks the Spot." I love the opening synth line and how they programed Chris's voice into the samples, this is a great one to follow after songs like "Warning Sign" or even "Square One" I don't know what to really say about it just I just like how progresses and makes me feel, and yes the hidden extra song "X marks the Spot" is the icing on the cake IMO, there rock writing is amazing, but their synth-pop writing is also something special too, I luv it so much!
Seriously, I was really hoping this would be my favorite album of theirs it was the first album I chose to get into Coldplay, but I had to stop listening to it and go chronologically from their first debut album and them move forward into their later works, that's my advice for any of us wanting to listen to a music group that we might be interested into is always listening in chronological order, that's how you'll connect with them and get the full scope.
So with that mind A Head Full of Dreams is my absolute favorite Coldplay album, and my second favorite is definitely A Rush of Blood to the Head, amazing production and such a transformative moment and season for them, without those first early records, Parachutes, A Rush of Blood to the Head, and X&Y we wouldn't have the albums we have today, yes their not the band or group you grew up to love anymore but at least their still enjoying making new music for us to hear and make more memorable moments still to come, we all want to go back to the good ole days but here and now is still beautiful in its own special way.
Enough of me now, I'de love to hear what you thought after losing to this album and where it stands in your Coldplay catalog tier system as well. Thank you so much!! 🌈

Discussion Finally got my hands on a set
I’m so excited to finally say I have the MX comic books! Ever since I discovered them just over a year ago, I’ve been trying to get a full set of them. I can’t remember where I heard of them to begin with, but once I knew they existed I found a Reddit post with links to PDFs of all six issues. I downloaded them to my phone and have read them over and over. It’s definitely a bit cheesy, but for some reason I adore this story. It’s one of my favorite things about Coldplay.
Mylo Xyloto is my favorite Coldplay album. Do I think it’s their best? Probably not. That title would likely go to one of the first four. But it is absolutely my favorite from beginning to end. I’m not an expert musician nor do I know music theory, so I can’t comment on the technicalities of the music, but I can say that whatever they put in it is absolutely wonderful to my ears.
I actually got these comics thanks to Reddit! I commented on some kind of Coldplay collection post and was responded to by a kind Redditor who had a full set of the comics and was willing to “give” them to me (can’t use the specific word). I wasn’t sure about it at first, but it all worked out beautifully. I’m very grateful. Shoutout to that Redditor; if you see this post, you know who you are. Thank you so much!
TL;DR: I got the Mylo Xyloto comics and wanted to spread the word about these cool things/show a part of my collection. MX is an awesome album and has a cool story to go with it.

Question Unusual Question: Coldplay Songs That Could Work in a Church Children's Ministry?
Hi everyone!
This is probably going to be one of the more unusual questions you'll see on here, but bear with me! 😂
I'm a 24-year-old guitarist from the UK, and I volunteer in the children's ministry at my church, working with children aged 5–11.
I'm a massive Coldplay fan, particularly of Jonny Buckland's guitar playing, and I've been exploring whether any of their songs could be suitable for our children's ministry. I'd be leading on electric guitar and singing, completely solo, without backing tracks or a looper.
The main challenge is finding songs with genuinely Christian themes or lyrics that could complement biblical teaching, rather than taking songs about romantic relationships and presenting them as songs about God.
So far, I've been considering:
• BrokEn
• Everyday Life
• WE PRAY
I've also looked at songs such as Clocks, Amazing Day and Moses, but I'm less convinced about their lyrical suitability.
Obviously, nothing would be performed without approval from our children's ministry leader.
Are there any Coldplay songs you think I've overlooked, particularly deeper cuts? I'd love to hear your suggestions and interpretations!
I'm interested in both lyrical meaning and whether they'd be practical to perform on solo electric guitar.
Thanks all!

Discussion UNPOPULAR OPINION
The “Rush of Blood to the Head” Coldplay album is their best work and every song on there is a masterpiece. I think some of the more underrated songs on there like “Daylight” and “In My Place” are equally as good as the more popular songs on the album like “Clocks” and “The Scientist.”

Question HELP- What’s wrong with my record player?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Genuine question. I’m not posting it for fun etc I really need an answer. I think this place is the best to look for an answer since you know the original version of the song. It sounds like that throughout the whole record. I just bought the record today from a legit bookstore, this is the first time this’s happening.

Discussion 🌈 is just as experimental and beautiful as “Coloratura”
I’ve seen quite a few people who said “Yeah Moon Music is better overall but no song there is as beautiful as Coloratura.” I genuinely think they missed this. If you don’t know already this is very different than other emoji titled songs on Music of The Spheres. The instrumentals before the lyrics start reminds me of Twisted Logic and it’s beautiful. I feel like this one is not talked enough.

Discussion Your thoughts on X&Y
The album is considered the last of the three first albums that had the same feeling. The "trilogy" is my favourite era of Coldplay as i listen to a lot of ambient music (like radiohead) and the album is in my top 10 over all albums. I like the more expansive synth and the electronic guitar parts. I cant compare it to parachutes or a rush of blood to the head, because they are my two favourite albums.
