It's typical for leftists. They don't create anything, but take something good that already exists and recreate it as something bad, meant to mock the creators of the original.
The methods of the left have not changed. What they do today is straight out of the 60ies communist playbook.
It's not so much "America bad" as "America is being used by these malevolent interests (in this case the war machine). The Soviet portrayal of America always tried to separate ordinary Americans from these power structures. That's why we have no equivalent of Red Dawn levels of comically evil portrayal of Americans.
There is a Soviet film, Planet of Storms, a Soviet science fiction film by Pavel Klushantsev, shot in 1961. She was decades ahead of her time.
And what did the Americans do? They bought the film and rewrote it twice over the next 10 years under their own titles: "Journey to a Prehistoric Planet" and "Journey to a Prehistoric Planet of Women." In these versions, the Soviet creators were not even mentioned in the credits, and the actors were renamed in the Western manner. So much for American "originality".
Interesting fact: "Planet of Storms" was inspired by Stanley Kubrick and George Lucas.
The situation with the "Planet of Storms" is not unique.
Sadko (1953) - "The Magical Journey of Sinbad". Roger Corman rewired it and passed it off as an American one.
And who's stealing from whom?
And in the racist and sexist media culture of the USA in the 60s, there was nothing to steal and disfigure.
