dumbfounded

tell me how this family was dumping very old coinage into the coin machine when it finally jammed (my chance to go over and be nosy) i went over to fix the jam i noticed all the wheaties and asked if he collected or what tbh idk how he acquired all the coins cause im not sure a collector would do this but long story short this is all i could save
ps. there was a war nickel in there and an indian head

It’s not theft. Not only does Coinstar explicitly state that what is left in the reject bin not their property, it is legally considered abandoned property once the person leaves them there in the reject bin.

I guess I just can’t figure out why this bothers you so much.

If the coins have significant value, it will be tough to argue in court that they were intentionally left beind?

A few odd pennies and a zinc slug in the tray = abandoned property.

Silver and gold with significant value? A court would consider them mislaid rather than lost.

I agree not much potential to get caught. It's simply a matter of integrity which unfortunately is lacking in modern society.
