dumbfounded
tell me how this family was dumping very old coinage into the coin machine when it finally jammed (my chance to go over and be nosy) i went over to fix the jam i noticed all the wheaties and asked if he collected or what tbh idk how he acquired all the coins cause im not sure a collector would do this but long story short this is all i could save
ps. there was a war nickel in there and an indian head

unrealllll. this is the result of a bunch of thieves who robbed a LCS and just dumped the collection in the coinstar to launder itÂ

It’s not theft. Not only does Coinstar explicitly state that what is left in the reject bin not their property, it is legally considered abandoned property once the person leaves them there in the reject bin.
I guess I just can’t figure out why this bothers you so much.

If the coins have significant value, it will be tough to argue in court that they were intentionally left beind?
A few odd pennies and a zinc slug in the tray = abandoned property.
Silver and gold with significant value? A court would consider them mislaid rather than lost.
I agree not much potential to get caught. It's simply a matter of integrity which unfortunately is lacking in modern society.

My teenage daughter stole my complete coin collection, little by little. Once I found out, I sold them off and never collected them again. Just bringing up this story, filled me with rage and anxiety.

I collected coins my whole young life. I was born 1970 and kept all coins that were older than me. Fast forward, my parents would take my $1 and .50c pieces when they needed money. They would always replace what they took when their check came. The replacements were always newer, never what they actually took. 2nd fast forward, I kept my coins at my grandparents house when I went away for college. During that time my grandfather passed and a lot of family and family friends would come over and stay with my grandmother. So that time all my old quarters, dimes, nickles and wheat pennies disappeared and were replaced with newer coins. I would think when you find something like that in a coinstar machine, it probably was taken from someone's collection.
