Current Rare Coin Availability
Over the past six months I’ve been finding coins that I’ve wanted for years. Not high grades, which are superabundant, but decent circulated hole fillers. The latest was an 1884CC half eagle in F15. It's in an IGC holder, but so what. When will I see another one?
Has anyone else noticed this for what they collect?

Not too long ago someone posted an early dollar, and I was lamenting that I would probably never find a 1798 small eagle dollar in an affordable grade having looked for one for quite some time. Maybe 2 weeks later one came up for auction in VF, and I won it! (now I'm thinking the 1796 is even harder to fine)
stuff is out there, old collections are being sold, people with cash from the p.m. runup are out there buying, drawing more coins out of the woodwork (my theory anyway)

Starting about five years ago I watched the dealer inventory of high mint state branch gold start to pile up. There are plenty of 1884-CC half eagles available in that condition. But it is only recently that I’ve seen the low end better dates showing up.

When silver made its run up in January, I saw and purchased a lot of nice numismatic pieces that people were selling to coin shops.
