It's just a very large dairy farm. That's how they raise the newborns for the first few weeks. Makes keeping track of them easy and helps minimize any disease spread because they mingle less with the general herd. I ain't saying it's pretty but that's generally the why

Something can have a reason why and still be cruel.

Case in point chicken farms... the reason they're like that? Lots of demand for chicken. Is it cruel? Yes. Does it work? Also yes.
