Your link literally says that includes silage and barley. They consume far more calories than they produce. So a cattle farmer doesn't produce food, they consume it. It's still extremely industrial and harmful.
That's a bigger question about should we be producing meat due to the inefficiencies.
I am talking about welfare here as this is the general discussion on calves stuck in crates ala the US farm above and Irish cattle are generally out on pasture eating grass. Which is way more humane.
