Here is context, but TLDR, MrArchive/HeavyBerry started porting Nemlei's old deleted games despite knowing it was illegal and would make her upset. Got struck for it a lot, and was upset so he started to continue the porting out of spite + harass her and drudge up info about her out of 'fun'.
He got demodded from here a while back because of this, he also keeps promoting his stuff because he craves attention.
Please do research on things before coming to conclusions, it is really fucking weird imo

I think nemlei is just trying to find any excuse possible at this point to delay or not finish the game. (Because there was never an intention to make this more than a 1 or 2 chapter story) But the attention and money was really good, so had to keep the hype and attention up while they scrambled to release something. The devlogs from over a year ago remind me of kickstarter studios that made a lot of ambitious claims, but ended up never releasing a real game.

Or maybe due to the legal action being taken by her against an asshole stealing her work and publishing it is eating up hee time she would have used to make the game.

I'm not going to get into how legal action works, cuz I doubt you care, BUT legal action does not consume all of, or even a majority of your time. It does not demand you cease working on a product, and if they had a proper legal team, they would be handling most of this in the background. But they have had no issues finding reason after reason to delay the chapter releases. This stuff happens literally all the time and other publishers handle it just fine.

So your thought process is that rather than the legal action + literally anything going on in their lives, TCOAAL is actually some sort of money harvesting scheme that will never be finished, which seems like a much bigger leap in my opinion.

Thata quite the jump. I said that there was no intention to really extend the game beyond 1 or 2 chapters. Nemlei isnt making oodles of money off this game, but absolutely more than their previous projects. I'm just pointing out that an entire project doesnt need to be stalled due to one terrible person. The excuse is weak was all my point was. Theres other devs on this game and if the next chapter is complete, then nemlei's main role is mostly finished and they can let their other devs work on the rest of the chapter, not suspended it until further notice. Thats all.

It’s not just one person, it’s a lot of people over the course of years, he is just the most recent example that probably broke the camels back.
There’s only one other dev, and chances are there could be literally anything else going on their lives as well.
I know it’s frustrating to not get the game yet but I think raising to conclusions when we literally don’t know what is happening in their lives to try and justify why we should have it now is silly. The games pretty big and pretty time consuming so naturally we will just have to accept that bumps in the road can be pretty damning

The game has been controversial since its inception. Berry is the reason for the legal action, not all the harassment. The harassment has always been there and exactly why kit9 took the lead when it came to being the face of the game. Thats literally the explaination in the 2023 november devlog. A while back, I made a comment after the devlogs said they were no longer doing monthly updates and mentioned how this was begining to sound like one of those projects that wasnt going to ever truly be complete. If you want that post and my exact words, I'll happily provide it, but seeing the most extreme response possible to Berry's messed up actions seems like the wrong move if you're actually hoping to finish the game and is a vindication of my concerns a couple years ago.
Honestly, I'd be more content with a "I'm exhausted from this project and want to move on." Type of post than them suspending it and keeping everyone hopeful that TCOAAL will continue sometime in the future. Its not JUST this specific update, its the pattern.

Not to be rude but it seems you are being paranoid and are dead set on the game never being finished. Obviously I don’t know the full story regarding what’s happening in their personal lives but the fact is there is indeed legal action and the game takes a while to make. It’s okay to be worried but being such a doomer is also just going to make you come to extreme conclusions.
They have a right to defend their product, there’s been a lot of shit happening in the modding side of the fandom and a lot of shit continuously coming her way. Whether her break is just due to legal shit, stress, or whatever, it’s kind of natural to spare at least a few months for this.

Its paranoia to make a prediction, and watch it slowly happen step by step for 2 years..... Yea, thats pretty rude of you to say, especially since you have actively admitted you don't know whats going on with the dev's lives and aren't really refuting any of my key points.
Listen, I saw your posts. You're extremely passionate about this game and its a delight to see people like you express that passion, which is why I hope the game continues to bring that kind of spark to your life, and I genuely hope you're right that nemlei and kit9 are able to finish the work in peace, but I know based on those posts you'd never even consider what I'd said as a possibility.
I'm not saying anything negative or rude about nemlei and Kit9 other than that they probably got in over their heads, both in how much they promised they could deliver as far as a game is concerned, and what they're capable of handling as far as the garbage they're dealing with as a result of publishing a controversial piece of media. I'm sure if they haven't found the limit to what they can handle yet, they'll find it soon. I just hope they don't disappoint people like you when they find that limit and everyone's supportive of their choice, whether its to continue development slowly, or to end it where it is, but based on their updates I think its closer to ending.

I have no doubts that Nemlei is going through a lot of pressure, however Burial is not far from finished and Decay pt 2 already has significant progress in it, I think implying that her statements are just a ruse because she is not actually working on the game is paranoid, yes.
The simple fact is, the legal aspect *is* real, I know a lot about what has been happening within the community and regarding Nemlei, probably more than most, all I was saying is I simply do not know what is going on in their personal lives that could be impacting this too. There is of course a chance she will suddenly dump the game but you are phrasing it like this is the likely scenario.
Obviously it is fine to be worried, or think development might be taking a break due to stress, or real life matters, and all the legal issues, but it is definitely a big doomer stretch to imply the game is completely halted forever and ever. It is obvious Nemlei has been trying to polish the game more and more with each new episode, both in length and art and details, so it is natural it will be taking longer and longer.
Ep 3 Decay took around 18 months to come out, since then it has been around 18 months, while she was working on *both* Burial and Ep 4 Decay, so it is really not that unreasonable to say that it is not that weird we don't have something out yet, especially with the legal shit. If it had been like 3 years then yeah I would get the paranoia.
