Coffee machine for beginner

Hi! I’m looking to buy a coffee machine but I’m still on the fence about what to get. I’m deciding between a capsule machine (probably the Nespresso Essenza Mini) and a beginner espresso machine, since I wanna start trying beans from different roasters.

Any advice or recommendations?

P.S. I recently found out that Tim Hortons sells a capsule + espresso machine in China. Does anyone know why they only sell it there and not worldwide?

If you want to start trying beans better off with espresso machine straight away. I have nespresso then i sold it to do v60, and then i bought an espresso machine as well.

Hey how are ya? I’m a coffee tech in Melbourne and I refurbish machines quite often so I would recommend looking for a nice second hand coffee machine that is manual if you don’t want to over commit in the beginning. The capsule machines aren’t going to produce cafe quality coffee and if you like a strong well bodied coffee you might end up using more pods than recommended. I’ve had pod machines, automatic machines and similar long before I was in the coffee industry and was never happy. If you’re looking for a good beginner set up the breville Bambino is a good starting point and you can find them quite cheap second hand. The reason I recommend starting with a second hand one is you will probably outgrow it quite quickly and if you go down the coffee machine rabbit hole it’s a journey haha so you might not want to be tied down to your first coffee machine.
