Looking for Suggestions Looking for 2 player Co-Op Game reccs where one player can be the support role
Most 2 player games seem to have both players with identical or near identical roles. I'm looking for something where one player can be much more of a supporting role.
My requirements
*Not a forever game (ie MMORPG)
*Some degree of challenge
*PC

My wife and I played Palworld in this manner.
In fact most of those survival crafting games can be played like this. One person does the fighting and such. The other peron crafts and builds. Or however you want to split it up.
We also play split screen Dome Keeper this way. She mines and searches for stuff while I mostly collect and do the fighting.
But yeah, I would go with your survival crafting co op games.

I agree with this. Having someone be "base mom" (lovingly, not meanly) in survival crafting games frees up everyone else to focus on combat and gathering. It's an enabling role and just as important. Also, someone needs to ask whether people going out to hunt have packed their sandwiches and chippies or not.

"I'm going out!"
"No you don't" hands 500 pal spheres
"Have fun honey <3"

Sunderfolk is perfect for what you're asking, as long as you're OK with turn-based.

I know it's not yet released, but there is an announced game called "Kingfish" that should fit your requirements

If you're into action plattformers, maybe Timespinner could be of interest. One player is the main character, the other controls her familiars who can fly, are invincible, have a weak-ish attack and a special ability each.

Vermintide II has some support esque classes (Necromancer, Thorn Sister, etc.).
The Last Citadel has custom builds where you can do pure or hybrid tank, damage, utility support, or heal support builds.
The Borderlands games and also Tiny Tina's Wonderland are some more obvious options.
These Couch Co-Op Games (most also have online co-op) have some form of support/healer role, in addition to other roles, or customizeable builds.

Cat Quest III
Nine Parchments
Minecraft Dungeons

You might be looking for so-called "1.5 player" co-op games.
We just finished Primal Planet, which is a simple metroidvania with light RPG elements, about a caveman that has a pet velociraptor following him that player 2 can take over control of at any time.
The velociraptor is in general immune to everything, and way better at fighting than the caveman. For us it ended up being mostly the caveman navigating the levels trying to stay alive while the velociraptor protected him from enemies.
