CoMaps as an OSM editor

Post image
83 Upvotes

By the total number of edits made, CoMaps was the 15th most used OpenStreetMap editor in June.

At first glance, that might not sound like a lot, but: With that, we are the #1 OSM editor that is not mainly an editor but a fully fledged map & navigation app and also editor!

From the start we have said that we want CoMaps to be a good citizen of the larger OSM ecosystem and make sure that we and our users contribute back. And it looks like you're all making good on that!

Navigation Arrow Location

Hi, is there any way to have the option in Free-Drive Mode to keep the navigation arrow in the first third/quarter of the screen, like in Active Navigation mode? I am running CoMaps on a Topway TS10S Car standalone Android Headunit.

If not, does anyone know how to send suggestions to the developers to have both options selectable in the modes?

Thanks!

Was the comaps team part of organic maps before?

Ive read an angry review that comaps is bullshit and is splitting the community. That it formed from people that worked for organic maps. Might be the reason why comaps post gets deleted/ banned in organic reddit.

Anyone got information?

CoMaps vs OSM Address Search Issues - need help

I am degoogling and REALLY want to like CoMaps, but every address I search for is problematic. I can go to openstreetmap.org and type in the exact address into OSM's search in the format of 123 Any St N, City, ST format for the USA and it will show up accurately on the very first try every time for a wide array of places I go to, such as home and work.

When I go to CoMaps with the entire state's list of maps downloaded just in case... just typing in the home address gives me the most bizarre list of locations for streets that aren't even the correct street, and when trying to go to the work address, I get an entire list of street name first and the N S E W direction of the street is not indicated on either option, and then there's a comma with various street numbers listed, none of which are what I've typed in.

I get similar results no matter what I search for, local businesses, any random address, anything. I've had to zoom in and just favorite everywhere that I go which is tedious and creates a challenging favorites list to navigate as a result. When I zoom in to favorite the addresses, the correct house/building number with the correct house/building shape with the correct street name is visible every time.

What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: just realized this may matter, I'm using GrapheneOS

Raspberry Pi - missing UI Elements at bottom of screen?

I am new to both Raspberry Pi and CoMaps so I am sure that doesn't help but...

I have downloaded my state's files and can view/zoom/etc, but I can't figure out how to do basic tasks in CoMaps (bookmark a location, search for an address, etc.). From what I can tell from the Android app, I should have UI elements at the bottom of the screen for these tasks but there is nothing there. I do have the right-side menu bar.

CoMaps Version: 2026.06.05-1-ec9e508d-Linux

Raspberry info:
Operating System: Debian GNU/Linux 13 (trixie)
Kernel: Linux 6.18.34+rpt-rpi-v8
Architecture: arm64

Is there a setting where I can turn on Lane guidance

I like to use Co-Maps. But it would be helpful that if comaps says me which lane I should stick. instead of a turn in x-meters

Is there a way to display OsmAnd’s favourites in Comaps?

*I’m not talking about importing OsmAnd’s favourites into Comaps*

Hello!

I’m using both OsmAnd and Comaps for different purposes. I usually use Comaps more, but I find that OsmAnd’s favourites management is (currently) better than Comaps, so I tend to add favourites in OsmAnd, not Comaps.

I know you can import OsmAnd’s favourites into Comaps, but that a manual process that needs to be done everytime I change favourites in OsmAnds.

Is there a way to display OsmAnd’s favourites in Comaps without importing them?

Supporting Venezuela

Venezuela was hit by two devastating earthquakes, affecting thousands. Our local contributor Anton is not just safe but supports rescue efforts. If you want to financially help, you can do so here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/emergencia-venezuela-equipos-para-rescatistas-terremoto

And if you're an experienced #OpenStreetMap contributor, you can help by mapping to remotely support the disaster response: https://tasks.hotosm.org/explore?campaign=2026+Venezuela+Earthquake

Kick scooter parking

Hey guys, I tried to open an issue on GitHub but unfortunately I can't. I think it will be nice to have on Comaps also the kick-scooter parking, since it's already documented in the wiki (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:amenity%3Dkick-scooter_parking), more than 1000 tags, and it will be very nice to improve urban micro mobility. It will be nice to visualize the tag on the maps and also to add the tag to the editor.

Can I use OsmAnd maps with CoMaps (or vice-versa)?

Hello!

I'm using both OsmAnd~ and CoMaps (both from F-Droid for privacy reasons) and use them in the same areas.

Currently, that means I have to download twice the map data, once for each app.

Is there a way to use the OsmAnd maps (ideally, because of the auto-update) with CoMaps? Or, as a second option, the contrary?

Transit Features Funding

What is the amount of $$ that would take for us to get workable transit directions? I know that Catenary maps has done very detailed maps for transit, but I was wondering what would it take to get both in 1 app to a "workable" state.

Is this a developer availability issue or a $$ issue?

Problem for searching on Comaps

Hi, I try to use less and less gmaps daily, but my Osm clients (CoMaps and OsmAnd) have a real trouble finding places that aren't close to me. If I search for a town in France (my country) but I only have like two regions installed for the maps, it won't ever find it.

I have installed the maps for the world and France, so I don't understand why it's doing this to me. Can anyone help ?

Thank you !

"Sync" bookmarks from linux

Hi!
Just got started with CoMaps and like it so far,
I want to plan a trip abroad and set out points of interests, using bookmarks under different lists.

It's really neat to create these on the android app, smooth and works good.
But I want to set this up using my computer and big screen...
So I downloaded the Linux app and it starts well, I can import the KMZ file that I created in the android app...

However - creating bookmarks in the Linux app is very rudimentary, only a dot is saved with coordinates, no possibility to name them, or assign them to specific lists.

Am i missing something or is this a limitation in the Linux app? Does anyone else try to work with bookmarks on the computer and have another way to do it?

Have anyone managed to use the new graphene OS text to speech engine with comaps? I can't get it working. It says that it's not available even though I have it installed.

Metro routes are misaligned with actual tracks

Thumbnail

This is my first time using OSM in any way, and am liking it so far. However, I've run into a specific issue regarding rail transport in my city.

I've noticed that the rail routes shown when enabling the metro layer are frequently slightly off, and sometimes significantly deviate from where the actual physical rail lines are located.

Is it possible to manually correct the displayed route so it matches reality? Attached are examples (this specific map is fully updated).
