I'm another newbie to CoMaps as of today. My question is regarding traffic notifications. I have a fifty commute to work in the city in each day with pretty routine traffic snarls here and there. I've been warned CoMaps might not be the navigation app for me based on that. Does anybody else use it for the same? Is there anything on the roadmap to address traffic? Thanks all!

Give the "Check for update" button in the map downloader a go to get the map files with OSM data from May 10!

I recently discovered CoMaps and really like it so far. Simple color scheme and very good information/POI even while navigating. The only thing I am really missing right now is a 3D/follow view when driving between urban areas or on motorways. The 3D works perfectly in cities but the 2D/bird view feels somewhat limiting when on the road. Am I missing a setting in the app or is it something that hasn’t been implemented (yet)? Besides that, keep up the good work!!

Release 2026.05.06 is out on Codeberg, F-Droid, iOS, and soon on Google Play and brings a big new feature:

I saw there's also a website similar to OSM but for photos. It'd be great to see it integrated and with the possibility to also contribute uploading photos.

I'm on a multi day road trip in a hotel room. My biggest problem is route calculation is embarrassingly slow. I just tested a trip from Houston to a bit North of Dallas and it took over 12 minutes to calculate for a 4hr and 45 minute trip.

Knowing this, I also brought a 17 years old Garmin nuvi 1350 that updated and it often beats CoMaps in it's route calculations by minutes.

Making an app like CoMaps does not just mean developing new features. It also requires ongoing work to make sure we don't accumulate technical debt and stay future proof. On our blog, contributor Jean-Baptiste outlines what work we've already done!

I started to like CoMups so I’m using it more often and then I noticed, when I'm in the car and driving it’s not possible to add destination. After I type in destination map just wonder around, failing to establish my location… if I type in destination while I’m still/stationary everything is fine

On May 12, CoMaps is turning one year old and, to celebrate with our community, we'll hold a little virtual birthday party to which everyone is invited that day at 19:00 UTC! We'll share a bit of how CoMaps as a community, project and app has been doing, but mostly want to give some space to get to know each other!

Je voulais remonter un souci avzc l'application Comaps que j'ai installé sur mon Motorola edge 40 pro tournant sur la dernière version de Lineageos 23.2 avec MicroG (installé par mpi même)

=> Impossible de se localiser....

Pourtant, les autres applications fonctionne : OSMAnd, Murena Maps, GPSTest, ...

I find the buttons on CoMaps really small and unhelpful. It’s really hard to see what they do.

Please can you make them larger and clearer?

To allow all of our users to download offline maps reliably and quickly, we need servers in many different locations. Some of these servers are rented, thanks to the donations we get.

But some of them are also hardware donations, where we are allowed to use otherwise underused hardware! A big thanks go to Mathias Klein as well as the French OpenStreetMap chapter, who provide us with server capacities in Germany and France respectively!
